December means it’s officially the holiday season, although the Monegasque royals kicked things off on the last Saturday in November. Princess Charlene and Prince Albert brought their children, 10-year-old twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, to a public ceremony in Monte Carlo’s Place du Casino for the annual Christmas tree lighting show, which marked the start of the Christmas holiday events across the principality.
The family bundled up for the evening event, with Princess Charlene in a wool paisley coat by Etro and matching brown leather Gianvito Rossi boots. Princess Gabriella wore an ivory Dior dress with gold thread and a matching coat. She dressed warmly with a rollneck sweater, white tights, and Chloé eggshell flats. Prince Jacques matched his father in a suit and tie.

Monaco’s lighting ceremony is an exceptional production. The children had the honor of being able to activate the light show once the music began, which commenced with the reveal of the large Christmas tree at the center of the square. Five oversized snow globes followed, and then the front of the Monte Carlo Casino then lit up with a coordinated sound and light display titled, “the Reindeer Show.” Each globe, designed to resemble a music box, tells a small story through a winter scene, and the displays feature characters named Snowflake, Rose, Hercules, Stella, and Rudolph. They represent a group of reindeer shown on holiday adventures across the principality.
Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques have had more public outings with their parents this year. Just a few weeks ago, the twins joined their parents on the balcony of the Prince’s Palace before taking part in the traditional military parade for Monaco’s National Day on November 19.
