A 16-year-old Superior girl drowned in the Superior Civic Center pool while swimming with a group of 40 classmates. She was swimming about five yards from the shallow end of the pool, in water about five feet deep.

Scientists have discovered a new species of algae that has only been found in Lake Superior and Ontario’s Lake Nipigon. The new species, Hannaea superiorensis, grows in a brownish slime on protected rocks along the shore.
