A previously unreleased Scott Weiland song, titled ‘If I Could Fly’, has been released a decade after his passing.

The heartfelt song was originally released after the birth of Weiland’s son, Noah, in 2000. On the track, he addresses his new son, singing on the soaring chorus, “If I could fly, I would pick you up and keep you safe from the headlights.”

‘If I Could Fly’ was released via vinyl format to celebrate Black Friday Record Store Day 2025, ten years since he died in 2015 at the age of 48. The musician passed away from an accidental overdose, which was deemed to be due to his consumption of a “toxic mix of drugs”, though his widow, Jamie Wachtel Weiland, contests these claims.

Following the vinyl release, a post was then made on Weiland’s official Facebook page, confirming that the unreleased gem is available on all streaming platforms.

The statement began, “To honour 10 years since Scott Weiland’s passing, we’re releasing something truly special for the real fans.”

It continued, “This is the first unheard song from Scott’s archive since he left us. It is personal, raw and a reminder of the heart that ran through all his work.”

Reflecting on his awe-inspiring run, it went on, “Scott’s legacy spans Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, a stack of awards, and more than 50 million albums sold.”

It added, “But it’s songs like this that show why people stayed connected to him for decades. ‘If I Could Fly’ bridges two generations of listeners and gives back a piece of Scott that’s been held close for 25 years.”

The centre of the song, Noah, held a show at the Garden Amp outdoor amphitheatre in Orange County to honour the 10th anniversary of his father’s death.

Additionally, in 2024, it was announced that Noah will rework unreleased vocals from his father on a track called ‘Time Will Tell’.
