When it was announced several weeks ago that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was to leave Royal Lodge soon; many members of the public were pleased and believed that such a move would be quick. However, it turns out that the former prince is not ready to leave the 30-room Windsor mansion in a hurry.
While Andrew has been served an eviction notice as a result of the scandals surrounding his association with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein – accusations he has always strongly denied – he actually has a long time to pack his bags. He reportedly does not have to leave the property until October 2026, despite the Palace hoping he would depart the Crown Estate much sooner.
Although many hoped Andrew would retreat to a property on the King’s private Sandringham Estate quickly and without fuss, it is now believed this may not be the case.
Instead, it is thought that Andrew could prolong the moving process for some time, especially as packing up 30 rooms of belongings may take considerable time.
A source told The Times: “You’re not going to see the removal vans outside Royal Lodge anytime soon.”
While Andrew may take his time to move out of Royal Lodge, much to the likely annoyance of King Charles, the same may not be said for his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who has lived in the mansion with her ex-husband since 2008.
This is because Sarah, who will not move to Sandringham with Andrew, is reportedly already househunting.
A source close to the former Duchess told The Times: “She wants to stay in the UK, ideally in the Windsor area, and she wants to have her own base so that she can live independently and continue to pursue many things as Sarah Ferguson.”
This revelation came after it was rumoured she was either going to move into an outbuilding on Princess Beatrice’s Cotswolds estate, or fly overseas to live in Princess Eugenie’s Portugal mansion.
Despite reports, it is believed neither of these options are on the former Duchess’s agenda.
