Mute the Madness Confront Modern Uncertainty on New Album Echoes Everywhere

New Music Friday (06/04/2026): Vince Staples, Lizzo & Taylor Swift

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

ICE SPICE – “THOOTIE” FT. TOKISCHA

“This was a fun record for me,” Ice Spice says of her new single, which features Tokischa. “It’s the first-time people are actually hearing me speak or rap in Spanish and it was fun to show another side of who I am, and it’s even more special that I got to do it with Toki. We went to the Dominican Republic to shoot the video last month and it was a vibe. I definitely felt at home.” Tokischa adds, “I’m so happy we finally got to make a song. It’s been a while since we’ve wanted to. When she sent me ‘Thootie’ it was instant. I gotta give it to the producers, they did a great job with the beat, not everyone who didn’t grow up in the DR can make a dembow hot like that. I loved working with Ice, she’s a sweetheart and a genuinely fun girl. I’m so proud of the video, and her coming to the DR after so long was very special to honor and respect the ‘bajo mundo culture.’”

JOE PERNICE – “SAVE ME” (AIMEE MANN COVER)

Joe Pernice has shared a lovely acoustic cover of Aimee Mann’s “Save Me” — memorably used in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia — that he originally released on his substack. Joe says, “I sent the recording to Aimee Mann to make sure she was cool with it. She was cool with it. I hope you all like it. I’ve always kind of thought it’s hard to mess up a great song…but you never know.”

THE DARKNESS – “MISTLETOE AND WINE”

The Darkness already have one cheeky holiday classic under their belts — 2003’s “Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End)” — but now they’re back with another. “Season’s greetings! Children, roasting on an open fire, their eyeballs all aglow, are weeping in awe of our latest seasonal offering,” says Justin Hawkins. “‘Mistletoe and Wine’ represents a musical departure for The Darkness as we reimagine Richie Clifton’s timeless classic and add a few sprinkles of shoegaze and drone. Jack Frost staring at his toes? You will be too. In a good way.”

—

KING HANNAH – “LOOK AT MISS OHIO” (GILLIAN WELCH COVER)

UK duo King Hannah have shared the b-side to their new 7″, a cover of GIllian Welch’s “Look at Miss Ohio” which they have been playing on tour all year.

SILVERSUN PICKUPS – “NEW WAVE”

“I used to be in love with huge guitar swells, and I’ve fallen back in love with them—just in my older brain,” says Silversun Pickups frontman Brian Aubert of the band’s new single. “‘New Wave’ is a reference to feeling like, ‘This thing is going to hit me’. You’re either going to get in the ocean or lay in the sand. It’s not even up to you. You’re not sure when it’s going to happen, but it’s going to happen. How do you prepare for it?” New album Tenterhooks, which was produced by Butch Vig, will be out February 6.

—

CENTRAL PLAINS – “WESTY’S BOSSANOVA”

Brooklyn band Central Plains are back with a new EP, Bitter Pineapple, that’s out next week. He’s a sweet first taste: “Westy’s Bossanova” featuring some warm organ-playing from The As-Is Ensemble’s Michael Bellar .

—

COURTNEY MARIE ANDREWS – “LITTLE PICTURE OF A BUTTERFLY”

Courtney Marie Andrews’ new album Valentine is out next month, and she’s given us another preview with “Little Picture of a Butterfly.” “After being stood up, this song fell out of me in a fit of heartbreak,” she says. “Musically, I wanted the beginning of the song to sound like the whimsical, dreamy, and helplessly meek feeling of limerence, and feeling like you need a response in order to be kicked into action. Once it’s stated that limerence can create illusions of fantasy or ‘make believe,’ we’re kicked into action, kicked into waking up, kicked into our power. The band kicks in, and I’m empowered.”

—

TIGA – “SILK SCARF” FT. FCUKERS

“This one’s tricky to talk about because it’s based on a fantasy genre I may or may not have invented,” Tiga says of the new single off his new album, Hotlife, due out on April 17 via Turbo Recordings/Secret City Recrds, which features Fcukers. “I knew I needed a fearless collaborator to bring it to life, and Fcukers were the only choice. Met them, loved them, called them. True story – please don’t repeat to anyone. Their spirit reminds me of the Electroclash Summer of Love (Y2K – present). You think we cared about genre boundaries? Think again.”

—

JASON ISBELL – “RIDE TO ROBERT’S” (LIVE AT BEACON THEATRE, FEBRUARY 2025)

Jason Isbell released a new live album for Bandcamp Friday, Live at the Beacon Theatre – New York, NY – February 21 & 22, 2025. One track is streaming now and you have to download it for $10 to hear the rest.
