Ex-Prince Andrew’s future living arrangements remain a lingering point of tension within the royal household. Despite pressure from King Charles, a source claims the former duke appears in no rush to vacate his Windsor home. While a formal process has begun to transition Andrew out of Royal Lodge, his departure may take longer — and be far less straightforward — than initially expected.

According to reports, King Charles has taken formal steps to reclaim Royal Lodge as part of a larger restructuring of royal residences. The Times reported that Andrew, 65, has signed paperwork acknowledging the end of his lease through the Crown Estate. However, because the notice period is believed to be at least 12 months, Andrew is entitled to remain at the property for another year.

A source quoted by the outlet said the move-out process will not be quick. They added that “you’re not going to see the removal vans outside Royal Lodge anytime soon.” Another person familiar with the situation alleged that Andrew is prepared to take his time. They told reporters earlier that Andrew “ain’t going anywhere.”

Logistics may also be slowing progress. Royal Lodge is described as more than a home. The 30-room property has been Andrew’s home for over two decades. As such, it includes several additional cottages and outbuildings, along with decades’ worth of personal belongings. Any items belonging to the Royal Collection will need to be catalogued and returned before the residence can be handed over.

There also appears to be work required before Andrew departs. A preliminary inspection reportedly noted areas in need of repair. Moreover, the Crown Estate is said to be assessing what costs may be deducted from funds Andrew might otherwise receive back from the lease.

Meanwhile, reports suggest Andrew is expected to move to the King’s Sandringham estate once preparations are complete. The decision aligns with his reduced role within the royal family since stepping back from public duties. His former wife, Sarah Ferguson, who has continued living at Royal Lodge post-divorce, is said to be exploring her own housing options in the Windsor area.
