Meghan Markle’s sister cast doubt on reports Friday that the Duchess of Sussex contacted their father, Thomas Markle, after he underwent an emergency leg amputation in the Philippines.
Samantha Markle criticized her half-sister in a string of posts on X, suggesting the claims of a reunion were false and aimed at managing public perception. “You’re also gullible,” Samantha wrote in response to a post claiming Meghan had reached out.
The 81-year-old underwent the life-changing surgery on December 3. Conflicting reports have circulated about whether or not the Suits star has spoken to her estranged father. A source close to the hospital told the Daily Mail, “If Meghan or anyone from her side had called, we would have known.”
Samantha went on to say, “Believe it if he’s put on a private jet and put into one of the best hospitals in the United States for care. Until then don’t hold your breath. It’s likely a PR stunt because of public scrutiny.”
In another message, she wrote, “Houston there’s been no contact… Time to stop the PR b——t Medusa.”
Thomas Markle, who shares Samantha and Thomas Jr. with his first wife Roslyn, became estranged from Meghan before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.
He missed the ceremony due to heart surgery and has faced several health issues since, including a stroke in 2022. Samantha blamed Meghan for his deteriorating condition at the time.
On December 6, the Daily Mail reported that Thomas Markle does not want to “die alone.” He said he would like to see his daughter “One more time before I die.” He told the Daily Mail, “I don’t want to die estranged.”
“We had to remove the foot,” a surgeon said. “There was a massive blood clot in his thigh. It was life-or-death surgery. If the infection had reached his heart, it likely would have been fatal. He is doing well, but he is not out of the woods yet.”
In addition, the hospital confirmed that they had no record of any communication from the 44-year-old. “Mr. Markle is a VIP patient. Of course, we all know who he is,” a hospital worker told the Daily Mail.
“If Meghan or anyone from her side had called, we would have known. We were confused when we saw the story. As far as we know, it didn’t happen. We would love to see the duchess here in the Philippines.”
