Martha Stewart is someone who knows what she wants ― and doesn’t want ― even in the afterlife.
“These coffin things and all that stuff? No way,” Stewart, 84, said when she was asked about her funeral plans during an appearance on the QVC podcast “50+ & Unfiltered” last week.
“I’m going to be composted,” the lifestyle icon said before naming the exact spot where she wants to be put out to pasture.
“When one of my horses dies, we dig a giant hole ― really deep ― in one of my fields. We have a pet cemetery, and the horse is wrapped in a clean white linen sheet and very carefully dropped down into this giant, lovely grave. I want to go there.”
When host Shawn Killinger asked if Stewart was legally allowed to be buried there, she paid the question no mind.
“I don’t know. Why not?” Stewart responded. “It’s not going to hurt anyone. It’s my property.”
Many commenters loved Stewart’s delivery ― and her decision.
“Buried, Martha might generate power 😂,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “I love her life philosophy. She considers everything, even death, down to the very last detail.”
Another joked, “‘Is that legal’ she’s a felon she does not care.”
The brand Miracle-Gro even waded into the conversation, writing, “She really said being composted isn’t going to hurt anybody… PERIOD we’re going to do the same thing🌱🌱.”
During the wide-ranging interview, Stewart was also asked about any near-death experiences she’s had. While the businesswoman couldn’t think of any, the podcast host kindly pointed out she’d been struck by lightning three times.
“Oh! That wasn’t fatal,” Stewart said.
She’s spoken about the lightning strikes before, once telling Ellen DeGeneres that it’s “crazy.”
“I think it actually is good for you,” Stewart said during an appearance on DeGeneres’ show back in 2022. “If it doesn’t kill you, I think it’s good for you!”
