The slate of titles heading for home viewing Dec. 9 include Good Fortune on Blu-ray, Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc digitally, and catalog releases such as The Emperor’s New Groove and Dogma on 4K Ultra HD disc.
Lionsgate will release the comedy Good Fortune for premium digital rental and sale Nov. 7. Written, produced, directed, and starring Aziz Ansari, the film also features Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh and Keanu Reeves. In Ansari’s directorial debut, Reeves stars as a well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel who observes a struggling gig worker, Arj (Ansari), who is barely making ends meet in Los Angeles, and intervenes to show him that money can’t solve all his problems. Gabriel swaps Arj’s life with a wealthy venture capitalist, Jeff (Seth Rogen), but the plan backfires when Arj is convinced his newfound wealth has, in fact, solved all his problems. As Arj refuses to switch back, Jeff is left without his fortune, Gabriel loses his wings, and all three are forced to confront what it truly means to be human. The film has earned $15.9 million at the global box office. It will arrive on Blu-ray (plus digital), DVD, and an Amazon-Exclusive 4K Ultra HD (plus Blu-ray and Digital) combo pack Dec. 9.
Well Go USA Entertainment will relase the Australian shark-attack thriller Beast of War on Blu-ray Disc and DVD Dec. 9. Written and directed by Kiah Roache-Turner, the film follows a troop of Australian recruits during World War II who must fend off a giant hungry shark while protecting their life raft after their boat sinks in the Timor Sea en route to battle. The screenplay was inspired by by the true story of the sinking of the HMAS Armidale. The cast includes Mark Coles Smith, Joel Nankervis, Maximillian Johnson, Lee Tiger Halley, Sam Parsonson, Tristan McKinnon and Sam Delich.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the anime film Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc for home viewing exclusively through digital retail platforms beginning Dec. 9. A follow up to the “Chainsaw Man” anime series, which itself is based on the popular manga of the same name, the film takes place amid a brutal war between devils and hunters, when another battle starts in the heart of the devil hunter Denji (aka Chainsaw Man) when he meets a mysterious girl named Reze. Facing secret enemies and fighting for his humanity, Denji revs up for his deadliest battle yet. The home release version of the film will be available in both a Japanese version with subtitles and an English-dubbed version. The film earned $43.7 million at the domestic box office, $150.1 million globally.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s faith-based feature Soul on Fire will be released on DVD Dec. 9. The family-friendly story stars Joel Courtney, John Corbett, Stephanie Szostak, Masey McLain, DeVon Franklin and Academy Award winner William H. Macy. Directed by Sean McNamara (Soul Surfer, Reagan), Soul on Fire shares the remarkable true journey of John O’Leary, who survived a near-fatal fire at just 9 years old and grew into a voice of hope and purpose for millions — anchored by faith, strengthened by family, and shaped by the unexpected kindness of baseball legend Jack Buck.
Pinnacle Peak Pictures and Alliance Home Entertainment releases the holiday romance The Christmas Ring on DVD Dec. 9. In the film, while searching for her long-missing family Christmas ring, Vanessa (Jana Kramer, “Friday Night Lights”), meets antique dealer Ben (Benjamin Hollingsworth, “Virgin River”). Ben’s work takes him to Vanessa’s hometown, scouring local shops for Christmas finds, and along the way their new friendship blossoms into something more. But there’s a problem neither one knows about. Ben’s father Howard (Kelsey Grammer, “Frasier”) has purchased a box of antiques that includes Vanessa’s missing Christmas ring. With no idea the importance of the heirloom, he plans to sell it. Karen Kingsbury’s The Christmas Ring is based on the Kingsbury novel of the same name and was written for the screen by Karen Kingsbury and Tyler Russell. Russell also serves as director and producer, alongside Kingsbury, Natalie Ruffino Wilson and Kyler Wilson. Making her acting debut is CMT Nominated Country Singer Jessie James Decker.
The documentary Dawn of the Dogman will be available through digital retail platforms beginning Dec. 9 from Small Town Monsters. For decades the story of the Michigan Dogman has been retold through song, urban legend and internet sensation, while the truth lay behind a smokescreen of speculation and what-ifs. Documentarian Seth Breedlove goes beyond the rumors to meet the researchers and journalists who first chronicled the legend, and the witnesses who continue to cross paths with the impossible creature. Since the late 1980s, the sightings have continued, leading many to ask if the Michigan Dogman is more than just a story. The documentary centers on the personal account of author and researcher Linda Godfrey, who first brought the legend into the public eye, and serves as a successor to the 2018 film The Bray Road Beast.

Disney will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the animated comedy The Emperor’s New Groove with its arrival on 4K for the first time through digital platforms and on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Dec. 9. In the film, emperor Kuzco (David Spade) thought he had it all: a devoted populace to rule over, a wardrobe of glamorous garb and his unwavering “groove.” But his world is flipped upside down when he’s turned into a llama by his devious adviser Yzma (Eartha Kitt) and her hunky henchman Kronk (Patrick Warburton). Now the once-mighty ruler is forced into an unlikely alliance with pleasant peasant Pacha (John Goodman). Together, they must overcome their differences as they embark on a groovy adventure.
Filmmaker Kevin Smith’s fourth film, the 1999 religious satire Dogma, is set to make its debut on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Dec. 9 from Lionsgate. Dogma stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as two disgraced angels who seek to return to Heaven by exploiting a loophole in Catholic Church doctrine. However, since escaping their exile would negate God’s infallibility and cause the end of existence, the task of stopping them falls upon an unsuspecting Wisconsin woman named Bethany (Linda Fiorentino) with a secret divine lineage. Joining her on the quest are a ragtag team of religious figures, including, somehow, Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith). The cast also includes Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman, Jason Lee and George Carlin.
In addition to a regular release in standard packaging, the studio’s Lionsgate Limited online store is offering the film as an exclusive Steelbook set. Both the regular and Steelbook releases are combo packs containing the film on 4K disc, regular Blu-ray Disc and a redeemable code for a digital copy. The digital release of the film will also mark the first time it will be available from online retailers. New bonus materials available on both the 4K and Blu-ray discs include an introduction by Smith and a 25th anniversary trailer, while new extras exclusive to the 4K edition include the featurettes “Revelations: Making Dogma,” “Establishing Shot With Robert Yeoman,” “More Sermons From the Mount” and a “Dogma Q&A.“

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the cult-classic 1997 horror film Anaconda on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc in Steelbook packaging Dec. 9. The film follows a documentary crew in the Amazon rainforest searching for evidence of a lost civilization when they are attacked by a gigantic man-eating snake. The cast includes Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, Owen Wilson, Vincent Castellanos, Kari Wuhrer and Danny Trejo. The Steelbook includes the film on a 4K disc restored from the original camera negative, presented with Dolby Vision, with Dolby Atmos and English 5.1 audio, plus access to a digital copy. A comedic reboot of the film starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd as indie filmmakers remaking the original film hits theaters Dec. 25.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the 1990 drama Awakenings on 4K Ultra HD disc Dec. 9 for its 35th anniversary. Robert De Niro (in an Oscar-nominated performance for Best Actor) and Robin Williams star in the true story of a maverick doctor and the patients whose lives he changes. Williams plays Dr. Malcolm Sayer, a shy research physician who uses an experimental drug to “awaken” the catatonic victims of a rare disease. De Niro co-stars as Leonard, the first patient to receive the controversial treatment. His awakening, filled with awe and enthusiasm, proves a rebirth for Sayer too, as the exuberant patient reveals life’s simple but unutterably sweet pleasures to the introverted doctor. Encouraged by Leonard’s stunning recovery, Sayer administers the drug to the other patients. The story of their friendship during this emotional journey is a testament to both the tenderness of the human heart and the strength of the human soul.
Kino Lorber Dec. 9 will release the 2006 comedy Nacho Libre, starring Jack Black as an underdog Mexican wrestler, in a two-disc 4K Ultra HD plus Blu-ray combo pack. Black stars as the sweet-natured Ignacio, a disrespected cook at a Mexican monastery who can barely afford to feed the orphans who live there. Inspired by a local wrestling hero, he decides to moonlight as the not-so-famous Luchador “Nacho Libre” to earn money for the monastery — not to mention the admiration of his forbidden love, the beautiful nun Sister Encarnación (Ana de la Reguera). Written by Mike White (School of Rock, TV’s “The White Lotus”) and directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite), Nacho Libre features music from Danny Elfman, Beck, Los Lobos and Black himself. The first disc in the Kino Lorber release has the film in 4K UHD from a new HDR/Dolby Vision master from a 4K scan of the original 35mm camera negative, on a triple-layer UHD100 disc with 5.1 Surround and Lossless 2.0 audio. The second disc has the film on standard Blu-ray from a new HD master, also from a 4K scan of the original 35mm camera negative, on a dual-layer BD50 disc with 5.1 Surround and Lossless 2.0 audio.
Due Dec. 9 on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Disc from the Criterion Collection is 1945’s I Know Where I’m Going. From British filmmakers Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, the film follows the headstrong, upwardly mobile Joan Webster (Wendy Hiller) en route to her marriage to a wealthy industrialist — until her carefully laid plans are blown away by a raging storm that leaves her stranded on an island off the Scottish coast with a dashing naval officer (Roger Livesey). The film is presented with a new 4K digital restoration by the BFI National Archive and The Film Foundation, supervised by filmmaker Martin Scorsese and editor Thelma Schoonmaker Powell, with an uncompressed monaural soundtrack. The 4K combo pack includes one 4K disc of the film and one regular Blu-ray Disc with the film and bonus materials.
Also due Dec. 9 on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Disc from Criterion is 1988’s Salaam Bombay!, director Mira Nair’s first narrative feature. The kaleidoscopic portrait of Bombay’s teeming street life combines a documentary-like sense of place with a poignant exploration of everyday resilience. After the young Krishna (Shafiq Syed) is cast out by his family, he makes his way to the city, where he encounters love, friendship, and tragedy in the face of extreme poverty. The film sports a new 4K digital restoration supervised and approved by Nair, with an uncompressed monaural soundtrack and a new English subtitle translation. The 4K combo pack includes one 4K disc of the film presented in Dolby Vision HDR, and one regular Blu-ray Disc with the film with bonus materials.
The 2019 Chinese drama Only Cloud Knows will be released on Blu-ray Disc Dec. 9 from BayView Entertainment and Huayi Brothers Pictures. From director Feng Xiaogang comes the tale of tragedy and redemption. In the film, after the death of his wife, a man decides to retrace their steps from the past, looking to reconnect with old friends and make right the promises he made before her death. He finds inspiration against the odds and support from the least likely sources. The film stars Huang Xuan, Yang Caiyu, Lydia Peckham, Fan Xu and Daniel Sing.
BayView Entertainment will release the 2017 Taiwanese drama Sen Sen on Blu-ray Disc Dec. 9. Nina Paw stars in this touching drama about life and death. In the film, a taxi driver is diagnosed with a deadly disease, opting to embrace a shorter but poignant life instead of a long road of uncertain treatments. From playing pool to starting her own manga comic, she embraces what her daughter cannot understand. Along the way she forms a bond with a young boy who himself has just dealt with the loss of his brother. In addition to Paw, the film stars Zhi-Xuan Wu, Hsuan-yen Tsai, Ying-Hsuan Kao and Ke-Fang Sun.
The 1978 Korean horror drama Splendid Outing will be released on Blu-ray Disc Dec. 9 from MVD Entertainment Group and Radiance Films. Following a dream about her dead twin sister, thriving corporate tycoon Gong Do-hee (Yoon Jeong-hee, Poetry) takes a drive to the seaside. But her splendid outing becomes a nightmarish one when she is kidnapped and forced to live with a gruff island fisherman who insists that she is his runaway wife. The limited edition of 2,500 copies is presented in full-height Scanavo packaging with a removable OBI strip leaving packaging free of certificates and markings.
The horror flick Kill List, the 1974 erotic film Emmanuelle and an “Emmanuelle” collection are being released on disc Dec. 9 from MVD Entertainment Group and Severin Films.
Kill List, the 2011 breakthrough film from writer-director Ben Wheatley (A Field in England, In the Earth), is being released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc for the first time ever. In the film, when an on-edge family man and unemployed contract killer (Neil Maskell of Hijack and Bull) accepts a new assignment of three separate targets, the list will drag him to the edge of madness and plunge him into the depths of Hell. Michael Smiley (The Lobster, Censor) and MyAnna Buring (The Descent) co-star in the horror flick, scanned in 4K from the 35mm digital intermediate negative with more than six hours of new and archival special features.
Emmanuelle, the erotic film that launched the iconic careers of director Just Jaeckin and star Sylvia Kristel, redefined cultural perceptions of “adult entertainment” and transformed female sexuality on screen forever, is being released on Blu-ray Disc and 4K Ultra HD disc, as well as in an 11-disc collection on 4K Ultra HD disc. Based on the bestselling memoir by Emmanuelle Arsan, the film follows a diplomat’s wife (Kristel) who unlocks her deepest carnal desires in the bedrooms and back rooms of Bangkok. The three-disc 4K Ultra HD presentation includes the original theatrical version and director’s cut — which removes the one sequence filmed without Jaeckin’s permission — both scanned in 4K from the original camera negative by StudioCanal and approved by camera operator Robert Fraisse, with more than six hours of special features that include a revealing new featurette on Arsan, the U.S. Premiere of the 2000 documentary A Hard Look directed by Alex Cox (Repo Man) and much more.
In addition to the 1974 original film in both cuts, the collection includes Kristel returning in 1975’s Emmanuelle 2, featuring a soundtrack by Academy Award winner Francis Lai; 1977’s Goodbye Emmanuelle, again starring Kristel; and the rarely seen and darkly provocative 1969 Italian production I, Emmanuelle, inspired by the then-newly published memoir by Emmanuelle Arsan. All four films in this limited edition collection are now scanned in 4K from their original camera negatives, with more than 15 combined hours of new and archival special features, two bonus soundtrack CDs, a 128-page booklet of essays, Sylvia Kristel artwork and more.
