Meghan Markle sounded completely different in a resurfaced interview from 2013 – at a time when she was working on Suits and hadn’t met Prince Harry yet.
The Duchess of Sussex appeared on Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show to promote her TV series, in which she portrayed paralegal Rachel Zane.
She worked on the show from 2011 to 2018, retiring from her role following her engagement to her now-husband Harry, 41.
When the interview was taped, Meghan, now 44, had just become single and was separating from her first husband, producer Trevor Engelson, 49.
Wearing a backless black mini dress, the then-actress told the TV host, “I got all dolled up for you.”
The pair then discussed Meghan’s studies at Northwestern as well as her previous jobs at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Meghan also spoke about her father, Thomas Markle, saying he was “a DP” – before she clarified it meant “director of photography.”
After realizing that she had used a technical term to describe her father’s job, Meghan told Craig, “I didn’t mean to make it sound so industry.” Throughout the interview, Meghan looked bubbly and smiled while cracking jokes with the TV host.
Five years after the interview, Meghan would go on to date Harry – the pair married in May 2019 and stepped down as senior royals in 2020.
They now live in Montecito, California, with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The resurfaced interview comes following the release of Meghan’s new Netflix Christmas special.
The standalone episode, titled With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, premiered on the same day King Charles and Queen Camilla welcomed the German state visit, and just hours after Kate Middleton released a personal message to attendees of her annual carol service.
The show follows the first two seasons of With Love, Meghan and comes after the Sussexes signed their revised, first-look agreement with Netflix back in August.
Things have also changed in Meghan’s personal life since the late show interview, as around the time of her wedding to Harry she became estranged from her father – and the pair haven’t spoken or seen each other in years.
However, following Thomas’ leg amputation last week, Meghan is said to have reached out to her father who is recovering in hospital in Thailand.
Thomas’ surgeon, Dr Neil Sanico, confirmed the three-hour procedure to amputate his leg was successful. Thomas has now been moved from the ICU to a standard hospital ward and started gentle physiotherapy as part of the early stages of his recovery.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Sanico said, “Mr Markle is making good progress. He has a long road to recovery ahead of him, but moving out of the ICU and into a regular room is a positive step.”
Dr Sanico explained they had “no option” but to amputate Thomas’ leg as attempting to remove the blood clot was considered too risky due to the potential for a full-body infection.
“There was a danger of gangrene setting in,” he added, while also praising Thomas for being a “strong and brave man.”
The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson ran for 11 seasons from 2005 to 2014.
