India is no longer just watching entertainment, it’s travelling for it. BookMyShow’s Throwback 2025 report shows a breakout year for music tourism, with more than 5.6 lakh Indians crossing city lines to attend concerts. That movement alone pumped money into hotels, flights, cabs and local restaurants, turning gigs into mini-economies of their own.

The spike in concert-driven mobility comes alongside a broader rise in premium live experiences, which nearly doubled in footfalls in 2025. Fans increasingly opted for VIP pits, elevated decks and curated hospitality zones — a sign that India’s live entertainment market is maturing and becoming more experience-led.

The report also highlighted the role of state governments in accelerating this momentum. BookMyShow signed memoranda of understanding with Assam, Telangana, Gujarat and Delhi tourism departments to bring in more domestic and international acts, build local infrastructure and create skilled jobs. These partnerships signal that live entertainment is now seen as a meaningful economic engine, not just a cultural complement.

Live entertainment on the rise

Live events saw a 17% rise in consumption, with more than 34,000 shows staged across the country — from concerts and comedy to cultural festivals. Emerging cultural hubs such as Visakhapatnam, Vadodara, Indore, Shillong and Rajkot reported triple-digit growth in entertainment consumption, reflecting a “truly pan-India” appetite for experiences, the report said.

Solo attendance grew sharply too, with 1.8 million fans choosing to attend events alone.

Cinema remains India’s shared ritual

While live events roared, cinema remained India’s most-loved ritual. Regional films gained ground, nostalgia re-releases drew 58 lakh viewers, and Hyderabad emerged as the country’s re-release capital. Interstellar led the comeback craze, selling out its February run before returning in March due to audience demand. The Dussehra weekend delivered the highest footfall of 2025, with 6.8 million tickets sold. Kantara: A Legend Chapter–1 became the year’s biggest repeat-watch phenomenon, drawing over 6 lakh returning viewers. Coolie registered the strongest advance sales with 2.4 million tickets pre-booked.

BookMyShow says the year was defined by intention. Indians no longer stumbled into entertainment but actively sought it, travelled for it and made it part of their weekly rhythms. As the platform puts it, 2025 wasn’t just entertainment consumed; it was entertainment lived.
