Warning: Spoilers ahead for season 1 of “The Pitt.”

Langdon, a senior resident at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, was caught stealing prescription painkillers and benzodiazepines during season 1. Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle), the Head of the Emergency Department, dismissed Langdon, but his medical career isn’t over.

Season 2 of “The Pitt,” which is set to premiere on Jan. 8, 2026, takes place 10 months after the season 1 finale. Episode 1 marks Langdon’s first day back in the emergency room after completing a 10-month stint in rehab.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly published on Tuesday, Dec. 9, Ball teased what “The Pitt” viewers can expect from Langdon in season 2.

“He’s been forced to grow up in a lot of ways over these last 10 months,” he said. “He’s stepping back into this workplace of much trauma and much baggage. He’s having to look his mentor Robby in the eye after having said some pretty nasty things to him — out of desperation, I think — at the end of season 1.”

While begging Robby for another chance during “The Pitt” season 1 finale, Langdon brought up Robby’s recent panic attack. Robby suffers from PTSD due to the overwhelming loss he witnessed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the death of his mentor.

“I never had a complete meltdown. Someone saw you in [pediatrics],” Langdon said, suggesting that Robby’s PTSD made him unfit to practice medicine. Ball told EW that Langdon and Robby are due for a “very, very big conversation” in season 2, one that Robby would rather not have.

Like the first installment, season 2 of “The Pitt” takes place over the course of a single emergency room shift. It’s Fourth of July weekend, and it’s Robby’s last day before a three-month sabbatical.

“Robby was kind of hoping that Langdon wasn’t gonna be back before he left,” showrunner R. Scott Gemmill told Entertainment Weekly.

Season 1 of “The Pitt” also suggested that nurse Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa) might be hanging up her stethoscope, but LaNasa will be back for season 2. A patient punched Dana in the face last season, and LaNasa said the “effects” of the attack are still with her in season 2.

“She’s not taking any s–t, and she’s a little bit rougher around the edges,” LaNasa shared.

The only cast member who won’t be returning for season 2 of “The Pitt” is Tracy Ifeachor, who played Dr. Heather Collins. Wyle, who also serves as an executive producer on the show, told Deadline that Ifeachor’s character was written off for creative reasons.

“We’ve all been sort of amused by the speculation about what everybody thinks might be a reason,” Wyle said. “But truthfully, we loved the actress. We enjoyed having her with us very much. She’s gotten really big, and we will miss her.”

“The Pitt” is available to stream on HBO Max. Season 2 premieres on Thursday, Jan. 8.
