Royals bring back reliever Jose Cuas on minor league deal

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A reliever with previous history in the Kansas City Royals organization is returning on a minor league deal.

On Friday, the Royals announced that 31-year-old reliever Jose Cuas and the club agreed to terms on a minor league deal.

Cuas spent the 2024 season with the Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays but struggled with a career-worst 7.71 ERA in 13 total appearances. Cuas also spent time with the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves but did not appear in any MLB games.

The Dominican Republic native made his MLB debut in 2022 with the Royals and was traded by Kansas City to the Cubs in exchange for Nelson Velazquez during the 2023 season.

While with the Royals, Cuas had a 7-2 record and 4.08 ERA in 92 appearances during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The signing comes on the same day the Royals agreed to a five-year extension with third baseman Maikel Garcia.
