Amy Schumer gave her now-estranged husband, Chris Fischer, a social media shout-out before announcing their separation.
“Just found this from years ago pretty. My truest self. Chris dug it,” Schumer, 44, captioned a Friday, December 12, Instagram video from her 2021 endometriosis surgery. “I’ve been through a lot with endometriosis. Tell someone you love they shouldn’t have heavy excruciating periods. @endofound donate along with me today.”
In the throwback footage, Fischer, now 45, filmed Schumer after she woke up from the anesthesia.
“We sit at the bar, we get a couple drinks,” she groggily said, seemingly falling asleep. “We just have a blast.”
Schumer confirmed her divorce from Fischer more than one hour later.
“Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son,” a second Friday post read. “We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time.”
The Trainwreck actress stressed that the pair’s breakup had nothing to do with her recent wellness transformation.
“Blah blah blah [this is] not because I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag s [sic] basket,” Schumer wrote, referring to her recent weight loss. “And [it’s] not because he’s a hot James Beard Award-winning chef who can still pull some hot tail.”
Schumer explained that her breakup with Fischer was “amicable.”
“All love and respect,” she concluded. “Family forever.”
Schumer and Fischer started dating in 2017, tying the knot less than one year later.
“It was a very chill wedding. It was thrown together last minute,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly in February 2018. “Most of the guests found out the wedding was happening on Tuesday from a text message sent out by Amy on Sunday. It was like, ‘Hey, this is happening. If you can make it, great. If not, no worries.’ People were in and out all night. It was a gorgeous day. Everyone was having a good time.”
The comedian and Fischer expanded their family, welcoming son Gene in May 2019. Two years later, Schumer had her uterus removed after she was diagnosed with endometriosis. (According to the Mayo Clinic, endometriosis is an often-painful condition where uterine tissue grows outside of the uterus.)

“It’s the morning after my surgery for endometriosis and my uterus is out,” she said in a 2021 Instagram video after her procedure. “The doctor found 30 spots of endometriosis that he removed. He removed my appendix because the endometriosis had attacked it.”
Schumer continued at the time, “There was a lot, a lot of blood in my uterus and I’m, you know, sore and I have some, like, gas pains. But, other than that, I already feel that my energy is [returning].”
After Schumer’s recovery, she even kept a memento from the surgery.
“Jason [Bateman] asked me one time, very rudely, because I actually had my uterus removed and he was like, ‘Did you save it?’ And I was like, ‘I actually did save it,’” Schumer said on a 2024 episode of the “Smartless” podcast, detailing her hysterectomy. “I had it bronzed, you know, because of how difficult my pregnancy was.”
