THEATER

‘Holiday Radio’

Little Rock’s Arkansas Repertory Theatre celebrates the Christmas season with “Holiday Radio, Live at The Rep,” subtitled “A Sleighride Through the Season’s Airwaves,” 7 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Dec. 21 at the theater, 601 Main St.

The show will feature “a glittering lineup of timeless tunes, playful stories, local legends (and the Solid Gold Dancers) … all spun from the season’s most festive frequencies,” according to a news release.

Performers include Tawan-na Campbell (whose Rep credits include “A Merry Motown Christmas,” “The Amen Corner,” “Footloose”), Miranda Jane (“Designing Women,” “Into the Woods,” “Responders”), broadcast legend Craig O’Neill and Ricardo Richardson (“A Merry Motown Christmas,” “The Amen Corner”).

Keith Wallace and the Rep’s artistic director, Steve H. Broadnax III, are putting the show together; Broadnax directs with music direction by Richardson and choreography by Allison Wilson.

Tickets are $45 (adults) and $25 (students). Call (501) 378-0405 or visit TheRep.org.

‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ at WAC

The Second North American tour production of the musical “Mrs. Doubtfire” (music and lyrics by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick, book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, based on the 1993 film) sweeps the Baum Walker Hall stage at Fayetteville’s Walton Arts Center, 495 W. Dickson St., 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Dec. 21. Craig Allen Smith plays the title role of Daniel Hillard/Euphegenia Doubtfire (everyone’s favorite Scottish nanny). Tickets are $48.30-$109.25. Call (479) 443-5600 or visit waltonartscenter.org.

MUSIC

‘VoiceJam’ auditions

Fayetteville’s Walton Arts Center has opened auditions for a cappella groups nationwide for the 10th annual VoiceJam A Cappella Competition on April 11 at the center.

Jan. 29 is the deadline for groups of two to 20 performers to submit video audition materials online via waltonartscenter.org/voicejam. There is no age limit and no school affiliation is necessary to audition. The competition will feature up to eight ensembles, to be announced Feb. 2.

The VoiceJam champion group will receive a professionally produced video of their set. Judges will also present awards for outstanding arrangement, vocal percussion, soloist and choreography.

The April 10-11 VoiceJam Festival will also include a concert by professional a cappella group Voctave and workshops and masterclasses for a cappella arranging, vocal percussion, body percussion, rehearsal technique and solo singing.

Admission is $10 for the Friday-night kickoff concert, $31.05 for the Saturday night competition. Call (479) 443-5600 or visit waltonartscenter.org.

TICKETS

Week-plus of ‘Wicked’

Tickets — $43-$163 — are on sale for the April 8-19 Little Rock performances of the national touring production of “Wicked” at Little Rock’s Robinson Center Performance Hall, 426 W. Markham St., at Broadway. Tickets can be bought in person at the Robinson Center box office; by phone at (501) 244-8800; or online at CelebrityAttractions.com or Ticketmaster.com. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. April 8, 10, 14 and 17, 1 and 7:30 p.m. April 9, 2 and 7:30 p.m. April 11 and 18, 1 and 6:30 p.m. April 12 and 19.

A nearly three-week sit-down by the touring production was a sellout Jan. 1-19, 2020.

Essentially a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz” from a different angle, the show (music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, book by Winnie Holzman, based on the novel by Gregory Maguire) involves a young woman, born with emerald-green skin, smart, fiery, misunderstood and with an extraordinary talent, and a bubbly blonde schoolmate who is exceptionally popular. Their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships … until the world decides to call one “good” and the other one “wicked.”

“Wicked” recently marked its 22nd year on Broadway, currently the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history. The first part of the movie version opened Nov. 22, 2024; the second recently hit theaters. Visit WickedTheMusical.com.
