Iconic actor George Clooney is ready to put his romcom days behind him.
After a long career spent starring opposite the likes of Michelle Pfeiffer and Julia Roberts, Clooney says he will no longer be taking romantic roles.
“I’ve been trying to go the route Paul Newman did: ‘OK, well, I’m not kissing a girl any more,’” Clooney said in an interview with Daily Mail.
He went on to explain the he does not see himself competing for romantic lead-roles with younger guys in Hollywood for much longer.
“When I turned 60, I had a conversation with my wife,” he said. “I said, ‘Look, I can still play basketball with the boys. I play with 25-year-old guys. I can still hang, I’m in shape. But in 25 years, I’m 85 years old. It doesn’t matter how many granola bars you eat, that’s a real number.’”
Some of Clooney’s most well known romantic roles include 2022’s “Ticket to Paradise” with Julia Roberts, 1996’s “One Fine Day” with Michelle Pfeiffer and 2003’s “Intolerable Cruelty” with Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Clooney was also named People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1997 and again in 2006. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2006 for his role in “Syriana.”
His most recent film, “Jay Kelly,” is currently streaming on Netflix.
