Panda Bear ft. Cass McCombs, Monster Rally ft. Jordana, more

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

MORE EAZE – “BAD FRIEND” FT. WENDY EISENBERG

Producer and multi-instrumentalist mari rubio announced a new album as more eaze, sentence structure in the country, due out March 20 via Thrill Jockey. About the first single, “bad friend,” she says, “Like a lot of the songs on this album, this has sat with me for years and taken many different shapes. I couldn’t really leave this one alone. It just kept coming back in my head. I hadn’t played it in years, and then when I played Chicago with Alan Sparhawke, I made a last minute decision to come back to this song as a sort of comfort, and that opened me up to reconsidering the arrangement and form. The key for unlocking it was the pedal steel: it’s kind of about playing it in a non-traditional way, strumming it more like a normal guitar rather than using traditional pedal steel moves but the main riff of the song is built largely about idiomatic idiosyncrasies/quirks with my pedal steel and electronics setup. To some extent this song lyrically is about knowing you shouldn’t have romantic feelings for a friend but it’s also about not doing a very good job hanging out with people and generally feeling like an alien. Sort of about having trouble in Texas dealing with my social circles, especially the last few years I was there.”

DOLL SPIRIT VESSEL – “GODLESS”

Philadelphia band Doll Spirit Vessel are back with their first new music since their 2022 debut album What Stays, the beautiful and multi-layered “Godless.”

PANDA BEAR – VENOM’S IN (DEMO FEAT. CASS MCCOMBS)

For Record Store Day this year, Panda Bear released a 7″ with his version of “Venom’s In” from Sinister Grift, with a demo version sung by Cass McCombs on the flip. That demo has now hit streaming services.

MONSTER RALLY & JORDANA – “OWN IT”

Monster Rally will release his first vocal album, Echoes of the Emerald Sands, on March 27. It features TV Girl, Mei Semones, Henry Mancini, Munya and, on “Own It,” Jordana.

SLEAFORD MODS – “NO TOUCH” FT SUE TOMPKINS (LIFE WITHOUT BUILDINGS)

Sleaford Mods‘ upcoming album The Demise of Planet X has a lot of cool guests (Aldous Harding, Gwendoline Christie) but the coolest is possibly Sue Tompkins of influential cult group Life Without Buildings. Her instantly recognizable voice and style are all over “No Touch” and it’s a match made in heaven, or wherever the midpoint between Glasgow and Nottingham is.
