Taylor Swift revealed the dating advice her mom, Andrea Swift, gave her right before she started dating Kansas City Chief’s tight end Travis Kelce.
Disney+ released two new episodes of Taylor’s new documentary series, The End of an Era, on Friday in the second installment of the three-part series. The documentary episodes give fans a look at what was going on behind the scenes of the historic tour and the fourth episode deals with the start of Taylor’s relationship with Kelce.
When Andrea called Taylor to tell her about Kelce, she told her that she wouldn’t necessarily take what she was going to say well. But, Taylor said her mom told her something to the effect of, “you’ve gotta start doing something different,” with regards to her dating life.
During an episode of the New Heights podcast in 2023, Kelce tells his brother, Jason, about how he went to Taylor’s concert and was disappointed she doesn’t meet with people before or after the show. Kelce said he wanted to give her a friendship bracelet that he made with his phone number on it.
On the fourth episode of the End of the Eras documentary, Andrea says the first time Taylor heard of Kelce was when she was playing the Kansas City show and saw his name in the locker room. Taylor said she didn’t know who he was but that her cousins were taking pictures under his name.
Andrea said she saw a headline that Kelce brought a friendship bracelet with his number on it to her show and wants to meet her. She called her cousin Robin, who she called her “resident expert” on the Chiefs and asked for information on Kelce.
“She goes, ‘Oh my god, he’s the nicest guy and you know what he really loves his mom,’” Andrea said. “I went, ding, ding, ding.”
Andrea said Kelce came off “so earnest” and him coming to her show and bringing her a friendship bracelet was so nice that she thought there was something worth pursuing.
But, Andrea wasn’t sure how she was going to get Taylor to meet Kelce. Taylor said she’d been “very non-athlete” in terms of who she dated because she didn’t think they’d have a lot to talk about since she’s not an athlete.
“I just became so obsessed with him that I became obsessed with football,” Taylor said.
Kelce also sent Taylor flowers on her tour after they started dating and during an earlier episode of the documentary, she said a call from Kelce gives her energy.
Of course, the rest is history, and we know how that story played out. The two started dating, officially confirming their relationship in the fall of 2023 and Kelce even appeared on stage at one of her concerts during the “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” segment.
Fast forward to this past summer and Kelce proposed to Taylor at her house with a custom ring and Taylor has hinted at a rather large wedding to come, telling host Graham Norton of The Graham Norton Show that he’ll be invited.
