Savannah Guthrie announced on Friday that she is scheduled to miss weeks of work due to upcoming surgery.
“Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules, and now I also have a polyp,” Guthrie said, assuring people that “it’s not a big, big deal.”
She went on to explain, “But, I am going to have to have a surgery real early in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks. It’s my last day for a little while. So I just want to let everyone know, and if you’ve been wondering, like, do I have the world’s longest head cold? No, I don’t.”
Guthrie told her fellow co-hosts that the surgery would have one upside for her husband and kids.
“But you’ll love this, guys. I have to be silent for a couple of weeks ― totally silent,” she said, adding “the jokes write themselves.”
Guthrie quipped, “Christmas comin’ early for my family.”
Sheinelle Jones, who has had the same surgery, gifted Guthrie a whiteboard to communicate with her family, while Craig Melvin offered up “prayers for healing and recovery.”
Guthrie said that overall, she was “really excited” about the surgery, before adding, “This has been going on for years, honestly.”
