Christmas 2025 is right around the corner. If you need some new holiday movies, TV specials, and music to keep you sane while you’re making your lists and checking them twice, check out what new pop culture dropped down the chimney this year.
I talk about some very old Christmas entertainment in the Great Pop Culture Debate podcast episode devoted to the Best Traditional Christmas Carol:
NEW CHRISTMAS MOVIES
Oh. What. Fun.
Prime Video, Available Now
This new holiday comedy puts the focus on mom – specifically, overworked, underappreciated moms who keep the holidays bright. Michelle Pfeiffer plays a mother trying to to the throw the perfect Christmas for her adult children (Felicity Jones, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Dominic Sessa), and who is taken for granted at every turn. She hits her limit and goes on a cross-country trip by herself to attend a TV talk show’s holiday mom contest. With Dennis Leary, Danielle Brooks, Eva Longoria, and Jason Schwartzman.
A Very Jonas Christmas Movie
Disney+, Available Now
The fraternal boy bands plays themselves in this musical spin on the “gotta get home before Christmas” trope. After getting mystically stranded in Europe, the brothers must re-establish their bond and also stay one step ahead of Christmas magic keeping them detained from their individual families. Look for supporting appearances by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Billie Lourd, Chloe Bennett, and Laverne Cox, plus some surprises I won’t spoil.
Jingle Bell Heist
Netflix, Available Now
Part heist film, part Christmas film, part romantic comedy, this movie follows two employees at a London department store who team up to rob the place as revenge against their awful boss.
The Merchants of Joy
Prime Video, Available Now
A very different Christmas movie, this documentary looks at the five families that control most of the live Christmas tree market in New York City. Learn the ins and outs of a business that lasts roughly five weeks of the year, and the challenges that come with a highly competitive trade fraught with complication.
Silent Night, Deadly Night
In Theaters Now
A reboot of the 1980s Christmas slasher about a mentally disturbed young man who puts on a Santa suit and punishes the “naughty.” By the folks behind the Terrifier horror series.

This project brings together classic mid-century blues/jazz/r’n’b standards by the likes of Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and others and remixes them with modern instrumentals and sensibilities. Impeccable vibes for your chill Christmas party.

Yet another re-release of the Australian pop diva’s 2015 holiday album, this time with a few new songs, including the single “XMAS” which is only available via Amazon Music.
Trisha Yearwood, Christmastime (Country)
It’s been more than 30 years since Yearwood’s first holiday album, so the country icon is due for another dip into the Christmas standards.
Various Artists, A Chess Records Christmas Album (R&B, Classic Rock)
This collection of 14 holidays songs from the 1950s to the 1970s includes some iconic 20th Century Christmas hits (Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run”) and a bunch of other lesser-known gems that make for a great festive soundtrack.
The Pretty Reckless, Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas (Rock)
Twenty-five years ago Taylor Momsen played Cindy Lou Who in the Jim Carrey How the Grinch Stole Christmas movie. Now, she’s a rock star and lead vocalist of the band Pretty Reckless, which put out this seven-song EP of mostly originals.
