2025 Most Viral Social Media Moments In Entertainment

Social media is the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to entertainment, humor, and (unfortunately for some) embarrassing moments. This year’s social media phenomena spanned film, TV, theater and music, ranging from the Louvre heist, a plethora of The Summer I Turned Pretty memes, Timothée Chalamet’s Marty Supreme Orange, Rachel Zegler‘s Evita balcony scene at the London Palladium, and Michelle Yeoh‘s iconic catchphrase from the Wicked: For Good press tour.

Scroll down for our top viral social media moments of 2025:

Louvre Heist & ‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t‘

Paris’ Louvre Museum made global headlines in October when eight pieces of the French Crown Jewels, worth more than $100 million, were stolen. The timing of the robbery lined up perfectly with the release of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, the third installment of the magician heist-thriller movie franchise. The internet speculated that the real-life Louvre theft was a publicity stunt for the movie — which is not true. However, during their press tour, the Now You See Me cast provided comical responses to “Where were you on October 19?”

Below, watch Jesse Eisenberg discussing the heist in relation to the film on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The Louvre story is now set to be told in a fast-turnaround documentary for the Discovery Channel, Louvre Heist: Minute By Minute.

Michelle Yeoh During ‘Wicked: For Good’ Press Tour

Last year’s Wicked press tour was characterized by “holding space for Defying Gravity” and the emotional interactions between Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. However, this year, Michelle Yeoh’s “Madame Morrible, MM, flip it around, Wicked Witch” catchphrase has taken over. In almost every interview about Wicked: For Good, Yeoh describes her character by holding up her fingers in an MM formation and then flipping them around to WW, signifying Madame Morrible’s evil nature. Fans loved her dedication to the bit and created a song remix of her saying it over and over. The official Wicked Instagram page and Yeoh herself joined the fun by posting the remix with a video showing that if you search “Madame Morrible” on Google, the results suggest “Flip it around… Did you mean: Wicked Witch” with pictures of Yeoh in the movie.

‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Memes

Choosing between Conrad and Jeremiah in Season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty was just as stressful for the show’s fans as it was for Lola Tung’s Belly Conklin. Every Wednesday from July 16 to September 17, people would tune in for a new episode filled with love, heartbreak, and meme-able moments. Arguably, the most memorable memes were the ones mocking Jeremiah’s small engagement ring to Belly, which viewers nicknamed the “invisible ring.” Speaking to Australia’s Pedestrian TV, Tung addressed the engagement ring slander and said, “I think it’s a little much. It’s very funny, but I do love that ring.” Although many of the TSITP memes were amusing, some did verge on cyberbullying the actors involved, which Amazon’s Prime Video spoke up against: “We have a ZERO tolerance policy for bullying and hate speech.”

Rachel Zegler’s ‘Evita’ Balcony Scene

Rachel Zegler captivated audiences as Eva Perón in Evita for 12 weeks on the London stage this summer. Hundreds of Londoners gathered every night in the street under the London Palladium balcony to listen to Zegler’s powerful rendition of “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” for free, while the ticketed spectators inside would watch it broadcast live on a screen. Deadline was among the crowd at the official opening night, where A-listers like Pedro Pascal, Sarah Paulson and Keanu Reeves attended the performance. Videos of the West Side Story star’s seven-minute balcony scene went viral on social media, making it the most talked-about part of the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical directed by Jamie Lloyd. Deadline’s Baz Bamigboye reported that Evita could move straight to Broadway as early as 2026.

Timothée Chalamet & Marty Supreme Orange

SCHWEP! Timothée Chalamet has been passionate about promoting Marty Supreme, his new A24 film with director Josh Safdie. Calling it his “best performance” to date, Chalamet has been closely involved with the marketing, as seen in an internal brand meeting that he posted to Instagram last month (watch below). The Dune star wanted people to associate the film with a color he calls “Marty Supreme Orange,” which he compared to the success of “Barbie pink” for Greta Gerwig’s 2023 blockbuster. At the film’s Los Angeles premiere, the Call Me By Your Name alum and his girlfriend Kylie Jenner wore matching orange outfits that went viral on social media. Exclusive Marty Supreme jackets have also caused an internet frenzy and have been worn by celebrities like Hailey Bieber, Tom Brady and Kid Cudi. Marty Supreme will be in theaters on Christmas Day.

Caught On Coldplay‘s Concert Cam

This summer, a Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA, gave social media one of the year’s biggest scandals. During the “Jumbotron Song,” the camera panned to Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR executive Kristin Cabot cuddling in the crowd, exposing their alleged affair. The clip was widely circulated on all major social platforms and led to both Byron’s and Cabot’s resignations from the company. Amid the debacle, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, was hired by Astronomer as a temporary spokesperson for a promotional video that poked fun at the situation by avoiding people’s burning questions about what happened and focused on the company itself. The video amassed over 35 million views on X and was recently slammed by Cabot, who called Paltrow “a hypocrite” in an interview with The Times.

Sydney Sweeney and American Eagle might agree that “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,” but the internet did not agree with their messaging. The ad, which has more than 11 million views on YouTube, received backlash and accusations of veiled racism over the use of “jeans” as a double entendre for “genes.” In one of the videos, Sweeney says: “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.” In response to the controversy, the Euphoria star told GQ, “I did a jean ad. I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life.” President Donald Trump even weighed in on the situation, saying, “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.”

Going To Space With Katy Perry & Gayle King

An all-female crew consisting of Katy Perry, Gayle King, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, Kerianne Flynn and Lauren Sánchez completed a 10-minute trip to space April 14 with Blue Origin. The quick trip was the 11th human flight of Jeff Bezos’ New Shepard program and was widely criticized on the internet for how expensive it was and for being a publicity stunt with little scientific value. Perry posted a video to her Instagram documenting the journey, which garnered almost 2 million likes. Although it took place eight months ago, the world still hasn’t forgotten. In the most recent Saturday Night Live episode, host Ariana Grande dressed up as Perry in her space suit and sang a parody version of “Firework” during the Random Duet Christmas Spectacular sketch.
