Cormac McCarthy to play Jan. 9 at Parish Center for the Arts Westford

Folk singer-songwriter Cormac McCarthy is set to perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, at the Parish Center for the Arts in Westford.

The performance is part of the PCA’s Coffeehouse Series, according to a community announcement.

Tickets are $20 for members, $22 for non-members and $25 at the door, if available. Seating will be cabaret-style and attendees are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks. Doors open 30 minutes before the show.

Advance reservations are recommended and can be made at pcawestford.org. Direct ticket link is https://parisharts.square.site/product/1-9-26-cormac-mccarthy/7YXHVX7FHNNHIHQAALBAN2AN.

Born in Ohio, McCarthy made his singing debut at age 3 on WKRC Radio in Cincinnati, performing “Davy Crockett” on his father’s radio show, according to the announcement. He began publicly performing his own music about 20 years later.

McCarthy credits his sister for sparking his interest in folk music. She introduced him to artists such as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Eric Anderson, prompting him to trade his clarinet for a guitar.

McCarthy has lived in rural New England since he was 10. He grew up in towns where the economies were based on logging and mills, experiences that have influenced his music.

What influenced Cormac McCarthy’s music?

“Speaking the truth through art and performance is my contribution in my attempt to fight the reality of our time – the movie you would not pay to see,” McCarthy said in a statement. “There is still plenty of room for laughter and warm feelings. That has not changed.”

McCarthy has performed nationally, including three times at the Newport (R.I.) Folk Festival and twice on NPR’s Mountain Stage Live Radio Show. He has also headlined events such as the “Night of Humor and Songwriters” and “American Troubadours” at Boston’s Somerville Theatre.
