Hyderabad witnessed another chaotic crowd scene on Sunday as actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu was mobbed by fans while leaving a saree store launch in Jubilee Hills. Footage showing Samantha struggling through a surging crowd, with security personnel guiding her to safety, has triggered widespread concern.
The incident comes just days after Nidhhi Agerwal was similarly surrounded by an uncontrolled crowd at a mall in Kukatpally during a promotional event for the upcoming Prabhas-starrer The Raja Saab. Both incidents have raised alarms over fan behaviour, crowd safety, and event management at public gatherings. Chaithra J Achar, actor: Looking at the recent incidents and the videos from Nidhhi ’s event, it’s clear that no matter how many men were trying to protect her, there were far more, often many times over, surrounding her and touching her in ways that made her uncomfortable. Knowing a celebrity’s popularity, it should be the organisers’ duty to ensure safety through measures such as separate exits and proper crowd management. In Samantha’s case as well, incidents like these make us more cautious, and even anxious, about attending public events. Personally, I choose to avoid places or gatherings where I’m not confident about the crowd or the organisers.

Even during a recent visit to the Kashi temple, some people recognised me and approached me for selfies, even touching my shoulder. What was particularly disturbing was that some of them were women. I wish people would see us as human beings, respect our private lives and understand boundaries. We need audiences to watch our films—that is part of our profession—but that does not mean we should be manhandled, mobbed or groped. Consent should always be sought before taking a selfie or touching someone.
Akshara Gowda, actor: When I saw the incident on social media, I was shocked! It was deeply disturbing. Nidhhi’s clothes were almost pulled apart; it was hard to even watch. It’s upsetting because people don’t seem to consider that she could be someone’s daughter or mother. This is how they view a female actor, as someone they feel entitled to. Just because we play glamorous roles doesn’t mean we are available or that it’s acceptable to touch us. Incidents like these are extremely disturbing, and I hope people learn to respect female actors, while event organisers take responsibility for managing crowds and ensuring safety.Police protection is not automatically provided to celebrities and must be formally arranged.
