Actor Akshaye Khanna, who recently drew widespread acclaim for his performance in Dhurandhar, is reportedly no longer associated with Drishyam 3. The actor has likely decided to step away from the project, citing both monetary and creative disagreements with the production team.
According to a report by Bollywood Machine, Akshaye sought a significant increase in his fee following the impressive commercial performance of Dhurandhar.
In addition to the remuneration issue, the report says that Akshaye also requested substantial changes to his on-screen appearance for Drishyam 3. This contributed to the creative differences between him and the makers and led to his decision to walk out.
There has been no official confirmation or statement from either party regarding the actor’s exit. The possibility remains that negotiations could still result in a resolution.
Akshaye’s performance in Dhurandhar has been widely acknowledged, with viewers and critics highlighting his convincing portrayal and the intensity he brought to the role.
Aditya Uppal, who worked alongside him in Dhurandhar, recently shared insights into the actor’s dedication during a demanding van fight sequence.
In a podcast with Abhishek Pali Talks, Aditya said, “There was a little hesitation at first. He is a senior actor. But once I am Omar Haider, he is Rehman Dakait for me. No matter how much you prepare yourself, you feel the hesitation for a second. Sanjay sir hit him and then asked us to beat him up. We ended up hitting him, that shot has been edited now, but it was quite extended,” said Uppal.
The actor further elaborated on how Akshaye encouraged him during the shoot. “When I hit him for the first time, obviously I was a little taken aback, I thought of doing it softly. He shouldn’t get hurt for real because it was also a compact space. Van was not even moving, people were just shaking it during the shoot. Aditya sir asked me to go for it. In fact, Akshaye sir told me, ‘Tez se maaro, main gir nahi raha hu (Hit me hard, I am not falling)’. When he said that the second time, then I hit him properly and went all out,” Uppal added.
Alongside Akshaye Khanna, Dhurandhar features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. The sequel, Dhurandhar 2, is scheduled for theatrical release on March 19.
