Everyone who knows of George Clooney as an actor is quite aware that he is a romantic buff in movies.
He is usually the guy who gets the girl. Usually, that entanglement involves a love scene, complete with a fevered kiss or two.
But Clooney says that won’t be the case moving forward.
He made his stance clear in a recent interview with the Daily Mail.
The “Oceans Eleven” star shared that after a conversation with his wife, Amal Clooney, concerning his age, “kissing girls” in movies is no longer an option for him.
“I’ve been trying to go the route Paul Newman did – ‘Okay, well, I’m not kissing a girl anymore,’” Clooney said. “When I turned 60, I had a conversation with my wife. I said, ‘Look, I can still play basketball with the boys. I play with 25-year-old guys. I can still hang, I’m in shape. But in 25 years, I’m 85 years old. It doesn’t matter how many granola bars you eat, that’s a real number.’”
Making his mark as a standout as one of Hollywood’s most popular romantic leads, some romance film credits Clooney has under his belt include “Out of Sight” with Jennifer Lopez, “One Fine Day” with Michelle Pfeiffer, “Ticket to Paradise” with Julia Roberts, and “Up in the Air” with Vera Farmiga.
This seems to have been on the “Batman” star’s mind for quite a while.
So much so, that back in March, during an interview with 60 Minutes, Clooney flirted with the idea of taking a total step back from “romantic films,” allowing Hollywood’s new crop of leading men the room to roam and take charge.
“Look, I’m 63 years old. I’m not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men,” he said. “That’s not my job. I’m not doing romantic films anymore.”
