Brigitte Bardot has died aged 91, but after a series of hospital trips in the weeks before her death, she issued an chilling statement about the end of her life. The French actress had been in and out of hospital after a series of illnesses, but after a death hoax occurred back in October, she warned her followers of the “fake news” that had emerged from an account on X. She wrote at the time: “I’m fine. I don’t know which idiot started this ‘fake news’ about my disappearance tonight, but know that I’m fine and have no intention of bowing out.”
Devastatingly, mere weeks later, her death was confirmed by The Brigitte Bardot foundation, which said in a statement: “The Brigitte Bardot foundation announces with immense sadness the death of its founder and president, Madame Brigitte Bardot, a world-renowned actress and singer, who chose to abandon her prestigious career to dedicate her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation.”
They added: “The Brigitte Bardot Foundation wishes to pay tribute to the memory of an exceptional woman who gave up everything for a world more respectful of animals.
“Her legacy remains, living through the actions and battles that the foundation pursues with the same passion and the same loyalty to her ideals.”
She retired from acting in 1973, aged 39, after amassing a huge catalogue of classic films and success, she also knew fame as a singer and model as well. Instead, she focused on her activism primarily in animal protection, and joined protests against seal hunts in 1977 before establishing her foundation in 1986.
Prior to Bardot’s passing, she had been rushed to hospital on multiple occasions, returning in both October and November 2025 after a serious illness. Over the years, she faced a number of health battles, including struggling to walk without an aid, which she shared in 2023 to La Parisienne.
She said at the time: “I can hardly walk anymore, I’m dependent on crutches, and dancing is very difficult for me.” In 2023, she had suffered severe breathing difficulties, resulting in emergency services attending her home.
Bardot was a beloved actress of her time and tributes have poured in for her, with Uri Geller branding her a “unique icon”, and adding: “There will not be another like her.”
