The Royal Family’s love of gardening and the outdoors will bring
a big change to one of their favourite homes in 2026. For the first
time, Sandringham House in Norfolk will host a special garden show
organised by one of the most famous organisations in the
country.
In July 2026, the RHS will add the royal residence to its
growing list of ever popular garden shows. The event at Sandringham
runs from July 22 and is sure to attract royal attention.
The King and Queen are regulars at the Chelsea Flower Show, held
in May every year, and Charles III has a major role within the RHS
that was cemented with a special gift last year.
King Charles has received a green gift that most gardeners can
only dream of- the Royal Horticultural Society has presented The
King with a new Royal Signature.
The RHS announced in 2024 that King Charles would be the new
Royal Patron, following his late mother. A lifetime gardener, His
Majesty was a more than appropriate fit for the role.
In July 2025, the RHS shared a new Royal Signature created for
the King; a Royal Signature is a botanical painting created for a
specific event or moment.
Botanical artist Gillian Barlow and calligrapher Timothy Noad
MBE collaborated on the new painting celebrating The King’s new
role.
The piece of art is based on Charles’ new gardens at
Sandringham. It has a rich colour palette of gold, bright pink,
coral, crimson, purple, and mauve. It also includes some of The
King’s favourite plants, including Geranium sanguineum,
Magnolia campbellii, Narcissus ‘Jetfire’, and
crocus.
The painting is amongst a strong group of over 40 paintings,
with the first Royal Signature created in 1816 for Queen Charlotte.
It will be displayed to the public in 2026 at the first ever RHS
Flower Show at the Sandringham Estate.
RHS General Director Clare Matterson shared, “We are
incredibly honoured that His Majesty The King is our charity’s
Patron. This painting marks over 200 years of Royal patronage and
is testament to the Royal Family’s true love of gardening and its
enduring relationship with the RHS.”
