The honeymoon looks like it could be over for newlywed soccer stars Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis as they checked out of their lavish Crown Towers digs this morning.
The loved-up pair sported their regulation activewear as they breezed into the lobby just before midday, stopping to sign autographs and pose for photos with young fans.
Kerr and Mewis and their families have spent the past four nights in suites at Crown Towers, where they were photographed by The West leaving for their nuptials on New Year’s Eve.
Mewis sparked fevered speculation about the impending betrothal when she revealed she and her Perth-born beloved would marry before 120 people at a private property.
For the ceremony at a luxe Venetian-style property in the Swan Valley, American athlete Mewis wore an exquisite embellished off-the-shoulder gown and veil, while her new wife looked chic in a classic tux.
The photogenic celeb couple were first linked during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, there they competed against one another.
It wasn’t long before Kerr made them Insta official by posting playful photo booth images of them on her account.
Kerr has spoken about how their relationship blossomed during COVID quarantine.
However in an interview with Gaffer in 2022 , she said they had kept it a secret from the world for “ages.”
“Then it just got too hard to hide it. I remember one time we were with some friends and some fans asked for a picture and then we thought we don’t really want this coming out from someone else. We want to be the ones to share it,” she said.
“We hid it from everyone because it is a private thing when you don’t know if it’s going to be serious. Once we told our friends it kind of started getting out there a little bit.”
In the same interview, Mewis said she was eager to make their romance public.
“I was so proud that she was mine so I wanted to share it. I love her and I was so proud to be her girlfriend,” she said.
She also spoke about how she hoped their relationship might inspire or empower others.
“I think just being out and being two girls in love, I think if we can change one or two people’s lives and the way that they feel about each other and how comfortable they feel, then that means a lot to me,” she said.
“I love to share my relationship on social media. So I think if we can change the way one or two people feel about themselves, they can look at us and see that we’re happy and we’re trying to be as successful as we can and we’re an out gay couple.
“I think that’s so important.”
