The raid, part of what the administration called ‘Operation Absolute Resolve,’ resulted in Maduro and his wife being flown to New York to face federal charges, including narco-terrorism and drug trafficking.
During the Fox interview, Trump referred to the Venezuelan operation and made statements implying future military actions could follow. He said, “We have to do it again [in other countries]. We can do it again, too. Nobody can stop us,” and added, “There’s nobody that has the capability that we have.”
He also dissed the Russia–Ukraine conflict, saying, “You know, when I watched that war in Russia going on and on and on, it’s primitive. People dying, it’s horrible.”

Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro also publicly rejected Trump’s characterization of his government and, after Trump’s remarks suggesting possible military attention, warned he was prepared to defend his country against any attack.
The capture of Maduro marked a significant escalation in U.S. foreign policy. U.S. forces carried out extensive strikes across northern Venezuela in the early hours of January 3, targeting military sites and facilitating the capture of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in Caracas.

The couple was then transported to New York to face criminal charges unsealed in U.S. federal court, where Attorney General Pam Bondi said they ‘will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts.’
Bondi’s office has long accused Maduro of collaborating with transnational drug cartels and violent criminal organizations. In previous public comments, she described Maduro as one of the “world’s most notorious narco-traffickers” and highlighted significant asset seizures linked to his government.
Trump’s remarks about potentially repeating military operations abroad, including interest in what he described as actions focused on Colombia and other countries, followed comments he made publicly aboard Air Force One. In those remarks, he criticized Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s government and suggested a military operation there “sounds good to me.”
