Rice opened up in an Instagram post on Wednesday, Jan. 7 in which he clarified that his break “isn’t a goodbye thing or anything like that,” but that he is “exhausted” after touring for 13 years.

“I haven’t been able to be myself on stage in quite a while and really enjoy music and why I got into it in the first place. I love songs, I love living them, hearing stories from other people, and figuring out how to put that life into music,” the 40-year-old wrote while mentioning that touring “finally beat me up to the point where I need to step away for a while.”

Rice continued, “I need to go live life so that I have more real experiences to write down. I won’t be touring this year and it wasn’t even really a decision, it was something I know that I just have to do for myself. A lot of artists do this all the time, but it’s new for me so it’s kind of a big deal in my life.”

The singer went on show love for his band and crew for all their years of hard work and dedication. Rice also expressed love for his fans “that have followed me along this journey.”

“You have truly made a dream of mine come true,” he wrote.

“I’ve got a handful of shows this year, but it will not look like anything like what I’ve done the last 13 years of my life,” Rice continued. “I hope this year brings new experiences for me to put into songs that will make y’all happy. Until then, thanks for the ride.”

Rice first rose to fame as a contestant and runner-up on “Survivor: Nicaragua” in 2010. After the show, Rice began focusing on his country music career. He later co-wrote Florida Georgia Line’s diamond-certified smash “Cruise,” which was released the same year as his album “Dirt Road Communion” that peaked at No. 48 on the Hot Country Albums chart in 2012.

Rice later topped the same chart with his 2014 follow-up, “Ignite the Night.” The album spawned the smash hits “Ready Set Roll” and “Gonna Wanna Tonight,” which both reached the top 10 of the Hot Country Songs chart. Rice has since released four more albums through 2024 and topped the Country Airplay chart with “Eyes On You” in 2018 and “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen.” in 2020.

Rice currently has eight shows scheduled for the year, starting in Nashville, Tennessee in February and ending in Los Angeles, California in August.
