Construction continues on the Signia by Hilton hotel Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, in downtown Indianapolis.
We have officially entered winter’s doldrums, but Indianapolis is still serving up enough entertainment to distract us from the cold. Over the next two and a half months, all manner of concerts, plays and comedy shows are scheduled around town. Highlights include a dance film festival, a performance by popular comedian Nate Bargatze and a musical about one of Indiana’s own — Michael Jackson, .

MJ the Musical

The musical focuses on the making of the 1992 Dangerous World Tour, highlighting the iconic musician and Gary native’s creativity and unmatched talent.
‘St. Sebastian’

That Other Theater Company, a new group on the Indy scene, will perform its first full-length production with “St. Sebastian.” The dark comedy chronicles a clash of good intentions, prejudice and inconvenient truths when a former priest and his partner decide to flip a home in a Black neighborhood.
Indy Dance Film Fest

Ten short dance films are part of this annual event that highlights the art form. Audiences will watch work by local and national performers, choreographers and directors.
August Wilson’s ‘Joe Turner’s Come and Gone’

In this drama set in 1911, those who were formerly enslaved journey north and stay in a Pittsburgh boarding house while they search for new jobs to start new lives. Among them is Herald Loomis, who is looking for his wife who disappeared while he was forced to work on a chain gang.
Indy Black Solo Fest

Indianapolis Black Theater Co. will present the return of the festival that celebrates Black artists’ stories through theater, music and storytelling. This year’s edition centers on the themes of roots, sisterhood, sanctuary and fire. Shows include “Marvin 4 Error” (Jan. 29-31), “Songs in the Key of Grenadine!” (Jan. 30-Feb. 1), “‘Daring to Dream” (Jan. 29-30), “Facing it Face to Face with Dollface” (Jan. 31-Feb. 1), “Death of a Church Boy” (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) and “‘Black Thread: Songs that Nina Taught Me” (Jan. 31-Feb. 1).
‘Lucky Stiff’

The Dance Kaleidoscope program will include “Train,” by guest choreographer Robert Battle, former artistic director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and current resident choreographer of the Paul Taylor Dance Co. Dance Kaleidoscope also will perform world premieres by Artistic Director Joshua Blake Carter and the 2025/26 Jaffee and Hall Emerging Choreographer Christa Smutek.

Mahler’s ‘Resurrection’ Symphony
