Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Wicked was the top-selling, renting title in 2025 with $23.8 million (£17.7 million) in revenue across 1.4 million unit sales, according to new data from the British Association for Screen Entertainment and the Official Charts Company. Universal was the top-selling distributor in 2025 in the U.K.

The tally, combined with streaming, transactional VOD and packaged media contributed to the highest-ever record U.K. home entertainment revenue at $7.7 billion (£5.7 billion). The market is the No. 2 home entertainment market after the U.S.

Rental revenue across premium VOD, transactional VOD and physical topped ($184 million) £137 million.

Paramount Pictures’ Gladiator II was the No. 2 home entertainment release with $9.5 million (£7.1 million) across sales and rental At No. 3, Universal/Focus Features’ Conclave with $5.4 million (£4 million) in revenue.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ Superman was the top-selling release on Blu-ray Disc, with the high-definition format posting a 3.1% increase in revenue for the year. Warner’s The Lord of the Rings Trilogy sold 13,800 units, with a value of ($1.09 million (£804,100).

Universal’s Downton Abbey: The Finale sold 56,500 DVDs, generating $763,400 (£568,000) since its Dec. 15 release.

The studios’ Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy was No. 4 with 740,500 unit  sales and rentals for almost $10 million (£7.4 million) in revenue. Universal’s Jurassic Park Rebirth added 598,000 unit sales and rentals for $9.5 million (£7.1 million) in revenue.

The last week of 2025 saw a surge in Christmas classic titles sales with 120, 100 unit sales  sales for Warner’s Elf and 77,500 for The Polar Express.

As expected, Netflix and subscription streaming VOD (with ad-supported tiers) drove home entertainment revenue, with Netflix topping the direct-to-consumer market with 17.6 million home subscribers. Prime Video was No. 2 with 13.6 million homes. Disney+ ended the year at No. 3 with 7.5 million homes, Paramount + No. 4 with 3.5 million homes, followed by Warner Bros. Discovery’s Discovery+ (3.2 million), Apple TV ( 2.8 million homes), and NOW with 2 million homes.

SVOD remains the No. 1 home entertainment distributor with almost 70% market penetration, and 20.5 million homes using at least one service.

“The U.K. entertainment industry is a globally admired powerhouse of talent and innovation that has excelled in 2025,” Liz Bales, CEO of BASE said in a statement. “Whether it is buying, renting, streaming or in cinemas, U.K. supported and created film and TV shows continue to deliver for audiences.”
