EXCLUSIVE: Crave’s upcoming true-crime doc series Narco Mennonites has been handed a January 16 launch date in Canada. You can watch an exclusive trailer above.
The investigative series follows the true story of a Mennonite family that quietly transformed a rural Canadian town into the epicentre of a North American drug empire, and reveals how how members of a secretive religious community became entangled with cartel networks.

Last Word Entertainment is set to begin rolling the series out internationally, with Bell Media’s Crave being the Canadian commissioner. Last Word made the show, which was unveiled during Crave’s content showcase last year, alongside MEM, which is known for shows such as MasterChef Canada and Canada’s Got Talent.
The series is written and directed by Sherry Fynbo, who also serves as executive producer alongside Nanci MacLean, Scott McGillivray, James Carroll, Justin Stockman and David Holthouse. Last Word is handling global distribution, with the series now being taken to international markets following its Canadian premiere.
“Narco Mennonites opens a hidden underworld that has never been documented on this scale,” said Fynbo. “Gaining that level of access allowed us to tell an original story audiences haven’t seen before.”
“This propulsive investigative series is an ideal project for MEM’s first foray into true crime factual programming,” added executive producer McGillivray, who is CEO of MEM. “We are delighted to work with Sherry and Last Word in bringing additional engaging projects to the screen.”
Following Narco Mennonites, MEM and Last Word Entertainment are now formally teaming up to develop and produce multiple premium investigative projects together. This will see them pool MEM’s large-scale production infrastructure and Last Word’s focus on access-driven underworld storytelling, and “several additional series” already in development, they say.
