Princess Kate’s ‘old pace of royal engagements isn’t option as diary fills up’

A royal expert has claimed that as the Princess of Wales continues to recover from cancer and return to her royal duties, she will prioritise her health and her family

As Princess Kate continues her recovery from cancer, a royal expert has claimed that “running on empty isn’t an option” for the senior royal.

In January 2025, the Princess of Wales announced that her cancer was in remission, and over the last 12 months, has made a gradual return to her royal duties. However, both Kate and Prince William have made their priorities clear, saying their number one concerns are their family and their health. Kate spoke candidly about her cancer journey in a video shared to Instagram on her birthday last week, as she spoke about the important role nature has played in her healing process.

In the video, Kate was heard saying in a voice over: “I find myself reflecting on how deeply grateful I am. For the rivers within us flow with ease, fears washed away, cleanse and purify. Come to peace with our tears and discover what it means to be alive.”

Royal expert Robert Jobson believes that the heartfelt video is a reflection on her difficult health battle, and more importantly, what lies in store for the Princess of Wales for the next stage of her life.

He told Hello! magazine : “After everything she has been through, she feels blessed that her treatment is over, and quality time with the children is what matters most. She takes nothing for granted.”

With Kate making a return to her public duties throughout 2025, Jobson believes that the princess is likely to be more discerning with the amount of work she undertakes in the next year, as she juggles her health and her responsibilities as a mother-of-three.

He said: “Last year was survival then recovery mode, picking her moments and pacing herself. This year, I expect Catherine to carry out more engagements but be selective. Her diary is already filling up, I am told. She won’t go back to the old pace; she’s learnt that lesson. It will be meaningful, with gaps in between for her family. Running on empty isn’t an option; nor is missing too much time with George, Charlotte and Louis. The days of just powering through are done.”

Kate returned to work last week after the Christmas break, as she and Prince William travelled to London’s Charing Cross hospital, where the royal couple met with staff and volunteers who have struggled through a difficult winter virus season.

The Princess of Wales, who wore a burgundy suit for the occasion, bonded with a volunteer who worked with chemotherapy patients who told them how patients and visitors are there “for hours”. Kate said: “I know”, before she touched William’s arm next to her and said: “We know.”

William and Kate then met with volunteers managed by the charity who help to improve care for patients and take pressure off the wider workforce. Mealtime volunteer for Imperial Health Charity Gulsenem Vural, 21, attended the special tea party, saying of the visit: “Today has been an absolutely incredible experience that I will never forget – The Prince and Princess were so interested in hearing about everything we do to support the staff and patients at the hospital, and I’m proud to have been able to represent all of the volunteers today.”

Kate opted to leave her iconic engagement ring – which once belonged to Princess Diana – at home for the visit, as she has done in the past when visiting a hospital. Rings with large stones are believed to be an infection risk, as many healthcare professionals only wear plain band-style rings for this reason.
