J. Cole will make his highly anticipated return to music later this year.
The Grammy-winning rapper announced Wednesday that his long-awaited seventh studio album “The Fall-Off” will be released on Feb. 6.
“The Fall-Off” will be Cole’s first full-length project since 2021’s “The Off-Season.” The album debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, earning Cole his sixth consecutive No. 1 album in the country. Additionally, “The Off-Season” was supported by the hit single “My Life,” has been certified platinum by the RIAA and earned Cole four nominations at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards in 2022.
Cole announced the release of “The Fall-Off” with a trailer posted to the rapper’s social media on Jan. 14. The clip captures Cole complete everyday activities while a narrator speaks about dealing with fame and escaping the spotlight.
“Everything is supposed to go away eventually,” the narrator says. “Especially in show business with famous actors or musicians. It’s like, ‘This guy used to be famous and then he fell off. What happened?’ They want to point this, this and this and they made this mistake.”
He continues: “So few people reach that level and yes, of course, it’s not gonna last forever because somebody else has to take that spot and that’s how show business has been forever. But no, they always want to say that guy fell off. They want to look down on him for going through the natural cycle of rising and falling.”
A hard-hitting beat then enters the clip as Cole raps on an unreleased track. The cover art for “The Fall-Off,” which features an old picture of Cole’s disheveled studio setup, was revealed at the end of the clip as well as on J. Cole’s Instagram.
