Before he first picked up a paintbrush at the age of 27, before the sunflowers, before Starry Night, and long before anyone cared about his work, there was a very different Vincent. A man who was struggling to find his place in the world, who failed at almost everything he tried, and who spent years drifting from one job to another, trying to find a place where he belonged.
And during all that wandering, something else was developing, a real empathy for ordinary people, for those who lived hard lives with very little recognition. People on the fringes of society.
This would eventually lead him to create his first masterpiece.
