The 2025 season was a trying one for the Kansas City Royals. They finished the regular season with an 82-80 record, which was good enough for third in the AL Central, but not good enough for a postseason appearance.

Going into the offseason, much of the core is returning, but the front office also worked on adding some new faces and securing others’ futures. They acquired Lane Thomas, Alex Lange, re-signed Salvador Perez, and signed Maikel Garcia on a five-year extension.

They were also involved in quite a few trades so far. They acquired Matt Strahm in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies, Nick Mears and Isaac Collins in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, Mason Black in a trade with the San Francisco Giants, and Kameron Misner in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Despite bringing in all those names, the Royals could still use another outfielder or a DH who can provide some power. At this point in the offseason, there are not too many names left, but there is one that could be a realistic option for Kansas City.

Marcell Ozuna still sits on the open market, waiting for his next opportunity. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes he would be a strong addition to what the Royals already have.

“Isaac Collins was a solid acquisition in a trade with the Brewers. Lane Thomas is an intriguing buy-low pick up. But the Royals still need at least one more outfielder or designated hitter who can provide actual slugging prowess. We all know Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger are pipe dreams for this small-market club, but DH Marcell Ozuna might be doable on a one-year deal.”

Tucker and Bellinger are out of the question for Kansas City, but Ozuna could be obtained, as he would not cost nearly as much as those two stars. The 2020 NL home run leader could be a treat for the Royals with guys on the basepaths, and could help them fight for an AL Central crown in 2026.
