What to know

  • Hip-hop fans say A$AP Rocky took aim at Drake on DON’T BE DUMB, particularly on track four, “STOLE YA FLOW,” where lyrics reference stolen flows, copied styles, and past tension.
  • The song and surrounding context tie back to years of unresolved friction, including Rocky’s relationship with Rihanna and Drake’s recent feud with Kendrick Lamar.
  • Rocky has not confirmed nor denied who the diss is directed to, saying the song applies to “whoever feels like it’s about them.”

A$AP Rocky’s new album seemingly threw shots at Drake on his latest album. Here’s a look at what made these once-friends turn into foes.

The GRAMMY-winning rapper dropped DON’T BE DUMB on Friday.

The 15-song album features collaborations with Brent Faiyaz, Doechii, will.i.am., and more, and includes two bonus tracks – one with Tyler, the Creator.

Given that it’s his first full-length project since 2018, it’s receiving a lot of hype. But it’s track four – “STOLE YA FLOW” – in particular, that has people talking.

Rocky raps, “First you stole my flow, so I stole yo’ b*tch,” seemingly referencing his long-standing accusations that Drake copied his music style and Rocky’s relationship with Drake’s ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

He continues, rapping, “N****s getting BBLs, lucky we don’t body shame/Throwing dirt on Rocky name, turn around and copy game.”

The reference to BBLs can be traced back to Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s 2024 feud, which featured producer Metro Boomin’s viral “BBL Drizzy” beat and Lamar’s shots at Drake’s alleged cosmetic surgery in his Drake diss track, “Euphoria.”

On Thursday, Jon Caramanica and Joe Coscarelli of a popular podcast, Popcast, suggested that Drake was the intended target of Rocky’s hits.

While Rocky didn’t confirm this directly in the episode, he did explain where the tension arose between the pair that were once close friends.

“I started seeing people who started out as friends, just became foes and seemed like they was unhappy for you and started sending shots,” Rocky said in the interview. “I think that’s what led to any of our misunderstandings. It really ain’t smoke.”

When asked if the beef was resolvable, he responded, “For what?”

Drake and Rocky have had back-and-forth bars in music in the past two years.

In April 2024, Rocky was featured on Metro Boomin and Future’s joint double-disc album We Still Don’t Trust You. On the track “Show of Hands,” he addresses his relationship with Rihanna,“N****s in they feelings over women, what, you hurt or somethin’?/ I smashed before you birthed, son, Flacko hit it first, son.”

One month later, amid his beef with Lamar, Drake name-dropped Rocky in “Family Matters,” where he said, “Even when you do drop, they gon’ say you should’ve modeled ’cause it’s mid again/ Smokin’ Fenty ’bout it, should’ve put you on the first one, tryna get it in/ Ask Fring if this a good idea the next time you cuddled in that bed again/ She’ll even tell you leave the boy alone ‘fore you get your head split again.”

When asked about the disses again, Rocky said, “It’s whoever feels like it’s about them.”

DON’T BE DUMB is out now on all streaming platforms.
