Matt Damon makes bold statement about cancel culture in Hollywood

Matt Damon has recently made bold statement about cancel culture in Hollywood.

The Oscar-winning star shares his honest thoughts about cancellation during an appearance on Joe Rogan’s US podcast to promote his new movie, The Rip along with Ben Affleck.

The show host asks The Martian actor about the issue, saying that the cancellation meant “one infraction is exaggerated to the fullest extent and a person is subsequently cast out of civilisation for life”.

To which, Matt responds, “I bet some of those people would have preferred to go to jail for 18 months or whatever, and then come out and say, ‘I paid my debt. Like, we’re done. Like, can we be done?’”

“The thing about that – getting kind of excoriated, [and] publicly like that – [is that] it just never ends,” continues the 55-year-old.

Matt adds, “It just will follow you to the grave.”

Earlier in 2017, Matt was called out by the actress Minnie Driver, who starred alongside  him  in Good Will Hunting and dated him for several years, after he said that the #MeToo movement was “wonderful” and “necessary” but that “there’s a difference between patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation and that those behaviours need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn’t be conflated”.

Meanwhile, Minnie said on X, formerly known as Twitter, “It’s so interesting how men with all these opinions about women’s differentiation between sexual misconduct, assault and rape reveal themselves to be utterly tone deaf and as a result, systemically part of the problem.”
