MADISON, S.D. — The Parkston/Ethan/Hanson/Mount Vernon gymnastics team narrowly edged out the hosts from Madison to capture the team title at the Linda Collignon Gymnastics Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17.
The Royals finished with a total score of 136.725, defeating Madison (136.600) by a margin of 0.125 points. Rounding out the top five team scores were Milbank Area (132.525), Sisseton (129.100), and Chamberlain (127.950).
The individual competition was a battle between PEHMV’s Addison Duba and Chamberlain’s Kylah Biggins. Duba secured the all-around title with a cumulative score of 36.850. Biggins followed closely in second place with a 36.575, while Nevaeh Smith of Vermillion took third with a 35.500. Madison’s Sophie Peterreins (34.600) and Laycee Andersen of Deuel (34.350) completed the top five.
The individual event titles were split between Biggins and Duba. Biggins claimed the top spot on vault with a score of 9.350 and on the balance beam with a meet-high 9.375 score. Duba took first on the uneven bars with an 8.850 and delivered the highest score of the meet on the floor exercise with a 9.625.
PEHMV’s Claire Sommer tied for fifth on beam (8.900) and finished sixth in the all-around scoring (34.300). Bridget Thomas, of Kimball/White Lake, posted a 9.125 on the floor exercise and 8.900 on beam, good for fifth place in both events, and Thomas finished tied for ninth in the all-around (33.100).
Chamberlain and KWL are at the Hot Springs Invitational on Friday, Jan. 23. PEHMV will next be in action on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Lolly Forseth Invitational in Sioux Falls.
