Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley hint at Simon and Trevor’s secrets in Wonder Man
The two co-actors sat down to discuss their upcoming series, Wonder Man, during a recent interview.
“Simon is an up-and-coming actor who has a big secret,” Yahya Abdul-Mateen II said about his character to Entertainment Tonight, likely referring to the superpowers that Simon seems to possess in the promotional material for the series.
The Black Mirror actor also noted that Simon needs help in the show to land the role he desperately wants, which happens to be the titular character in the in-universe Wonder Man movie.
Meanwhile, describing his character, Trevor, Ben Kingsley observed, “When Simon is at his most vulnerable, Trevor says I can help you do this. But there is something he’s not telling Simon.” This implies that Trevor has a secret of his own, and the dynamic between the two characters will be an important aspect of the narrative.
Abdul-Mateen II also explained to the outlet why Simon is so relatable. “He is a dreamer,” he said.
Additionally, Destin Daniel Cretton, the co-creator of Wonder Man, underscored the chemistry between Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley while speaking to the same outlet. “Within a couple of scenes, watching Sir Ben and Yahya together, you’ll be like they are made for each other.”
Cretton and Andrew Guest developed Wonder Man from the namesake Marvel Comics character. The show’s cast includes Arian Moayed as P. Cleary, Zlatko Burić as Von Kovak, and X Mayo. All episodes of the series will debut together on Disney+ on January 27, 2026.
