The breakup that broke “And Just Like That.”
Kristin Davis revealed she thinks the “Sex and the City” sequel series ended last year because Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) dumped Aidan (John Corbett) for good.
“I do feel like that’s part of the reason we ended ‘AJLT,’ is because we ended Aidan,” Davis, 60, told co-star Mario Cantone on Monday’s episode of her “Are You a Charlotte?” podcast.
“Once Aidan was really done, I feel like creatively there was an emptiness that Michael [Patrick King] and Sarah Jessica didn’t have an immediate answer for,” Davis continued. “And they need to have that creative motor driving them. And they didn’t have that and I think they need that. That’s how they operate with the two of them together as a great creative partnership.”
Davis clarified that her theory “is not based on what anyone’s said to me. It’s my own feeling.”
The critically panned series ended after three seasons last year with Carrie finally breaking up with Aidan and choosing the single life.
Corbett’s final episode on the show aired July 24, 2025, three weeks before the series finale on Aug. 14, 2025. News that the show was ending broke on Aug. 1, 2025.
Corbett, 64, told The Post in October that he supported how the show handled the end of Aidan’s story.
“Do I think Aidan and Carrie should have ended up together? I got a feeling that they… just like the old 25 years ago Aidan and Carrie’s story, I think that there’s probably a better fit for Carrie in the New York lifestyle than that,” the actor said. “They gave it the old college try.”
“So I think that was the right way to go with it,” Corbett added.
He also revealed that he was taken aback when he found out the show wasn’t continuing with Season 4.
“I was as shocked as anybody when, no one calls me up and says, ‘Hey, we’re going to not pick it up.’ I found out just like everybody else. And I was bummed out that it’s not going to continue,” he told The Post.
On her podcast, Davis and Cantone, 66, agreed that they weren’t ready for “And Just Like That” to end.
“I absolutely wanted one more season,” Davis said, as Cantone added, “That was not a series finale. It was a season finale — but that was not a series finale. Not from my point of view.”
Davis then revealed that she still hasn’t watch the “AJLT” series finale.
“I”m in denial, and I would like to remain that way,” she shared. “But I know what was on the page. And when the girls and I got together for dinner, we were like, ‘Wait, what did we do?’ And we couldn’t really remember, which it is not a good sign.”
“In my mind, we’re gonna do something else,” Davis told Cantone. “I don’t think it will be a whole season, but I think we will do something else.”
But Davis noted that making another “Sex and the City”-related project is complicated right now due to Netflix’s planned acquisition of Warner Bros.
“Obviously no one knows who owns us right now. That’s gotta be worked out,” she explained. “I’ve seen Michael a couple times — he doesn’t say that. But I’m just in my hopeful way going with that. I feel like we’ve been going for so long, why finish now?”
