Ginny Owens is taking her new music to the room before sending it to the algorithm. The longtime singer-songwriter will preview her new material during two intimate shows next month. Ginny will perform an evening of songs and stories at Moshava Art in New York City’s Greenwich Village on February 6, followed by a Nashville appearance at the Museum of Christian & Gospel Music on February 10.

After a three-year break Owens will release Different Kind of Water on Feb. 20. “Here, you’ll find songs about what we do with our endless restlessness and longings,” Owens shares. “About how we train our hearts to hope, even in darkness. About forgiveness, brokenness, and what it means to live life to the fullest…what it means to dive into a different kind of water.”

The first song from the long-awaited EP is out now, the piano-led “God Will Meet You There,” written with Tony Wood and Cindy Morgan, sits with disappointment instead of smoothing it over: “When the weight of disappointment/Feels more than you can bear/He’s not put off by your anger/God will meet you there.”

That tension is at the heart of the EP. “As a creative person, I live in an endless state of longing—for my next big adventure, my next favorite creation, my next challenge,” Owens explains. “But what I’ve learned is this: we can redirect it. We need something—Someone—different to long for. I believe there’s only one thing that truly satisfies the soul. It isn’t found in success, acclaim, or adventure. It’s supernatural. It’s not of this world.”

Elsewhere, Different Kind of Water moves through familiar emotional terrain without rushing toward easy answers.

In addition to the EP’s release across all streaming platforms, Owens has created a Different Kind of Water softcover journal featuring lyrics and credits, in-depth song stories, reflection prompts, and a CD. It’s a physical companion piece in an era that doesn’t always slow down long enough to ask for one.

For an artist whose catalog has always balanced faith with honest questioning, Different Kind of Water doesn’t try to chase trends or reclaim past moments. It simply documents where Ginny Owens is right now—and trusts that’s enough.
