The Acadiana Center for the Arts recently held a screening and reception for the documentary, “Ratified,” which details the century-long effort to pass the Equal Rights Amendment. The event took place on Friday, Jan. 16.
The PBS Independent film was directed by Deborah Riley Draper. Draper said her work highlights the women who fought to move the ERA forward, including the triumphs, setbacks, and continuing efforts to secure equality for women. An opening reception was held prior to the film, followed by a community conversation with Draper and local leaders and attendees. Topics included Lafayette’s current and future progress on equal rights issues.
LFT Fiber sponsored the screening at a unique time in Acadiana’s history. Officials said they believe the region is experiencing measurable growth in women-owned businesses, women in civic leadership, and women shaping the cultural and economic direction of Acadiana.
Most people know AcA is the place to go for art, music, and culture. It is also a source for learning about important historical events. Many of those in attendance have made great contributions to the Acadiana community. Through events like these, they are also helping others gain awareness about critical issues in our communities.
