Rachel Zoe returns with her classic Rachel style

If you were up on celebrity gossip in the 2000s, how do you feel about Rachel Zoe’s return? She was one of the first stylists who became a celebrity in her own right, by association to all the It girls of that era, and I will never not remember that Nicole Richie called her “Raisin Face”. Like actually posted a blind item on her MySpace after their falling out, referring to Rachel by that, um, nickname.

That was back in 2006 and while I know the social media trend right now is to throwback to 2016, it’s now been 20 years since Rachel was a gossip regular and now we’re here, she’s a housewife of Beverly Hills. And last night she was at a party at Chateau Marmont.

I don’t watch housewives, of any city, so I have no idea how Rachel is being received, but she’s popping up more and more in my feed the last few weeks. And what I’ve noticed is that her style is consistent with how I’ve always pictured her – she was a big part of the Hollywood boho look two decades ago and the shapes she wears now remain similar. The white slip dress and feather duster in these shots is a good example.

She wasn’t the only one papped in feathers leaving the Chateau on Wednesday night. Lori Loughlin was seen in a swingy white feather top over black leather pants. It’s giving… well… housewife. She’s aligned with Hallmark and not housewives but there have been predictions for years that this is an eventuality, as recently as a few months ago when she announced the end of her marriage. She’s famous, she’s now single, and she’s messy, doesn’t that check the boxes?

Let’s go back to white feathers and fuzzy tops. Because it’s a winter must for me. I wear a lot of white on ETALK and lately our stylist, Simone, has actually pulled several and there are some good sales. If you’re looking for cozy whites and creams….

Banana Republic’s sweater game right now is stupidly good. This cream turtleneck is dreamy and it was nice and roomy. The only reason we didn’t end up keeping it on my rack is because, well, this is not a white sweater but the multi-green sweater tunic would not be denied, LOL. I’m wearing it next week on the show.

Banana Republic also has a short-sleeved alpaca puff sweater that’s really cute and comes in an earthy green. I sized up for this one and it’s on sale.

I tried on Twinset’s white turtleneck, also on sale, and the scalloping on the hem is lovely. I liked the way it kinda hung lower on the sides and the only reason we didn’t keep it was because I was cold that day and got precious about the ventilation. If I had tried it on while warm, we probably would have kept it. 

The next option we definitely didn’t keep for reasons that will become clear in a second. I did not know the brand of this furry hoodie when I tried it on and I have to admit, unfortunately, that it felt good. Then I looked at the tag – it’s the SKIMS faux fur hoodie and I refuse but you may not have an issue and I won’t judge you for it. The hoodie is on sale right now.

Let’s cleanse the palate…

This cable knit sweater at Free People is really pretty, and the wide sleeves kinda elevate the piece, in my fitting I wore it over a kilt and I loved it.

A more casual Free People option is the calla pullover and let me confirm for you – this sweater is sooooo soft, when I put it on I felt like I was on my couch.

Now to my two top picks…

The Goldbergh Bolleta alpaca-blend sweater is the pricier one but the slouch of it is so great. I only ever want a slouchy sweater.

But if we’re talking furry and feathery and slouchy and cozy and stylish, our winner was at a better price point, and hit my waist at exactly the right point but also looked great with a French tuck. This is the one we held for the rack – the chester sweater.
