Madelyn Cline in talks for Judd Apatow comedy with Glen Powell

“Outer Banks” star Madelyn Cline is in negotiations to join Glen Powell in an untitled Judd Apatow comedy for Universal Pictures, according to Deadline. Cristin Milioti is also attached to the project, which is slated to begin filming this spring.

The film centers on a country-western star — played by Powell — whose personal life and career are unraveling, with Cline set to portray his girlfriend.

Written by Apatow and Powell, the project marks another collaboration between the filmmaker and Universal, where Apatow has maintained a longstanding relationship since his 2005 directorial debut, “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.”

Universal has set a Feb. 5, 2027, release date for the comedy. Apatow will direct and produce through Apatow Productions under his overall deal with the studio. Powell and Dan Cohen will produce through their Barnstorm banner, which holds a first-look deal with Universal, alongside Kevin Misher of Misher Films.

Cline has starred since 2020 in Netflix’s “Outer Banks,” one of the platform’s most popular series, with its fifth and final season expected later this year. Her recent film credits include Netflix’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” and Sony’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” She will next appear opposite Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in Lionsgate’s “Day Drinker,” out later this year.

Powell, a University of Texas alumnus and frequent Austin presence, continues to expand his producing slate alongside his acting work. The new comedy adds to a growing list of studio projects tied to the actor-producer.
