Blake Lively‘s lawyer is shedding insight on her mindset as her personal texts with Taylor Swift become public.
When asked whether Lively, 38, is “upset” about friends like Swift, 36, being “drawn into” her legal drama with Justin Baldoni, lawyer Sigrid McCawley said that she has “done everything she can to protect her friends from not being brought into this.”
“It was the Baldoni parties who brought that evidence into this case. It’s not relevant. What’s relevant is her claims that she was sexually harassed in the workplace and the witnesses are there to see that,” McCawley said outside of the New York City courthouse on Thursday, January 22, per a video obtained by TMZ.
News broke in 2024 that Lively sued It Ends With Us costar and director Baldoni for sexual harassment and trying to destroy her reputation. Baldoni has denied the allegations and subsequently filed a countersuit, which was dismissed in 2025.
Swift, meanwhile, has been a longtime friend of Lively’s and allowed her 2020 song “My Tears Ricochet” to be used in It Ends With Us. The pop star has distanced herself from the drama and denied direct involvement with the film.
Ahead of Baldoni and Lively’s May 2026 trial, private text messages between Lively and Swift were released in response to Team Baldoni’s “motion for summary judgment.” The final text message chain that was released took place on the same day Lively filed a complaint against Baldoni.
“You won. You did it,” Swift wrote to Lively in a group chat that included someone listed in the actress’ contacts as “Roy Orbison.”
Swift shared a link to an article on the case and wrote that Lively was “f***[ing] help[ing] so many people who won’t have to go through this ever again.”
“Never has a cancellation been reversed so fast,” Swift wrote. “You guys don’t understand how rare this is. To have proof and to take the perfect steps to bring that truth to light.”
Lively replied, “Like. My. God. I love you so much. I would not be ok through any of this if it weren’t for you.”
Swift went on to note that she received a call from a “PR chick” who “wants to get info to Blake.”
“That means the world,” Swift said, while Lively agreed, “It changed my life.”
Elsewhere in the documents, a conversation between Swift and Lively seemingly confirmed that there had been a rift in their friendship amid the legal battle. In her text message to Swift, Lively noted that she always wanted the “opportunity to be a better friend if there’s something I unintentionally did.” Lively also acknowledged that Swift, who was traveling for her worldwide Eras Tour at the time, was “busy and taxed.”

Swift, meanwhile, replied that Lively was “not wrong, but it’s also not a big deal,” agreeing that she is “exhausted in every avenue of my life.” Swift went on to note that she had been “feeling a little bit of a shift” in the way Lively spoke to her.
“Yes there has been a lot of Justin stuff but I’ve been through things like this before and I know how all consuming it is,” Swift continued. “I feel really bad saying anything about this because your texts have been so nice in their intent but your last few … it’s felt like I was reading a mass corporate email sent to 200 employees. And it feels awful to be in any way critical of any way you process what you’ve been going through but I just kinda miss my funny, dark, normal-speaking friend who talks to me as herself.”
Lively said she didn’t “notice” until Swift “pointed it out” that she had been texting like that and had become “digitally paranoid” amid the lawsuit. She also noted she was “spooked” by the amount of friendships she lost while going through the legal battle.
“My lifelong friends -allies to women- who quietly dipped,” she told Swift. “And so I’m probably being over the top with my friends who stayed because I’ve never felt more alone.”
