Rush may be firmly in celebration mode, but the future isn’t completely off the table. In a newly published interview with Music Radar, bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee spoke candidly about the possibility of new music emerging from the Canadian rock legends after they complete their 2026 headline tour, Fifty Something.

The tour will see Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson revisiting Rush‘s towering legacy alongside acclaimed German drummer Anika Nilles, who previously toured with Jeff Beck in 2022 and has been rehearsing extensively with the band in preparation for the run.

While expectations of new Rush material have remained cautious since the passing of drummer Neil Peart in 2020, Lee revealed that creative sparks were already beginning to fly before touring commitments took over.

“My intent, before we got into this celebration of Rush‘s history, was to put some music together,” Lee explained. “Now, I assumed I would be doing that on my own, not with Alex, but when we started jamming, I started seeing the possibility of doing something with Alex.”

That momentum, however, has been temporarily sidelined by the scale of the upcoming tour. “All of that went on hold now because there’s too much work,” Lee said. “There’s too much work to do for this tour to even think about that.”

Still, Lee stopped well short of shutting the idea down entirely. Looking beyond the road, he suggested that rest — and geography — might be the key to whatever comes next. “But if we manage to survive the tour, and go back to Canada and have a rest, who knows what’ll happen,” he added. “But I suspect some music will eventually come out.”

Lee also touched on the potential creative chemistry with Nilles, whose technical skill and modern approach have already impressed fans following the tour announcement. “It would be fun to see what [Anika] can do in a creative situation,” Lee said. “Like, that would be fun.”
