A source told The Mirror: “Victoria is devastated, utterly stunned that her son would take this step. They’re still pointing fingers at Nicola, believing she encouraged him to do this, and it’s all down to her; they’re perpetually blaming Nicola. But as Brooklyn stated, he felt compelled to act. He’s fed up with being manipulated by their narrative.”
The pair are said to be feeling especially upset by Brooklyn’s accusations, as they are understood to have frequently shielded their son from the very accusation he levels against them – adverse press coverage. Victoria and David’s formidable PR operation has allegedly sprung into action on numerous occasions when the pair discovered unfavourable allegations about their son – demonstrating that their commitment has remained unwavering.
Examining the reports that prompted the Beckhams to intervene, Daily Mail columnist Katie Hind noted: “Some involved him with the wrong crowd, others were ‘kiss and tells’ from former girlfriends. On every occasion, when I put these stories to the Beckhams’ camp, their PR machine leapt into overdrive in Brooklyn’s defence, on occasions instructing expensive lawyers to protect him.”
As Brooklyn built his own career, David and Victoria also pushed Brooklyn towards various professional ventures, from football and modelling to apprenticing with a leading photographer, and regularly shared praise for him on social media.
The family feud is believed to have started around Brooklyn’s wedding arrangements, with Nicola’s family allegedly funding a substantial proportion of the occasion.
The ceremony is reported to have cost approximately £3million. However, his parents did present him with a remarkably generous gift – a classic Jaguar XK120 estimated to be valued at £372,000.
Brooklyn’s declaration is reported to have left his parents heartbroken – especially Victoria who bore the brunt of criticism during his damning statement. He maintained his family tried to “ruin” his relationship with Nicola, with certain members supposedly declaring she “wasn’t family”.
