Surging Bluegrass Band Mountain Grass Unit Announce New Album

Ramblin’ Utah pickers The Last Wild Buffalo ignite new album, opening set at the Ogden Music Festival | News, Sports, Jobs

I have told this story before, but it’s been a while, so bear with me: Back in the late ’80s, I went to see Kim Simmonds and Savoy Brown at a local bar where they were playing for a few nights. They were fine, I guess. To be honest, I don’t remember much about the show. But I do remember going to work a few days later — I was a cop reporter working out of the police station — to find that their bassist had been arrested and was in court for shoplifting from the downtown Hudson’s Bay department store. I can’t recall exactly what he stole, but I think it was something vaguely embarrassing like a cheap women’s bracelet. Lucky for him, the judge was in a forgiving mood and let him go with a warning, since the band were leaving town in the next day or two. I thought about trying to interview him, but I figured he was probably in enough trouble with the boss already. Is that story included in Simmonds’ new posthumous memoir? I guess I’ll have to read it — along with these other upcoming tomes:

Street Corner Talking: The Autobiography of Kim Simmonds
By Kim Simmonds

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “In this candid memoir, Kim Simmonds (1947–2022), legendary guitarist and founder of Savoy Brown, shares his six-decade journey in blues-rock. From discovering the blues in post-Second World War Wales to leading one of Britain’s most enduring bands, Simmonds recounts Savoy Brown’s rise to international fame, particularly in the U.S., where albums such as Street Corner Talking and Hellbound Train became classics. With honesty and humour, he reflects on the ever-changing music scene, encounters with legends such as Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton, and the challenges of keeping a band together. Even after a cancer diagnosis, his passion for music never wavered. Featuring a foreword by producer Mike Vernon and contributions from Kim’s wife Debbie, this book is filled with behind-the-scenes stories and personal reflections. A must-read for music lovers, it offers a rare glimpse into the life of a true blues-rock pioneer who played until his final note.”

Living In A D.A.I.S.Y. Age: The Music, Culture And World De La Soul Made
By Austin McCoy

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Music artists and trends come and go, but every once in a while, a moment arrives that genuinely changes everything. In 1988, De La Soul, three young men from Amityville, Long Island, did exactly that. Their always innovative work pulled inspiration from artists of the past and popularized cutting-edge music sampling techniques to blend jazz, R&B, and rap as they created a sound unlike any the world had heard before. But the De La Soul experience didn’t end there. These weren’t just musicians-they were game-changers in so many ways. From the way they dressed, to the words they spoke, to the day-glo colours of their breakout 3 Feet High And Rising, De La Soul rejected convention, refused to be talked back into the box, and left the door open for everyone behind them. Now, in Living In A D.A.I.S.Y. Age, Austin McCoy explores how De La Soul not only defined a new era of hip-hop, but also American and Black culture at the same time. Through his eyes, ears, and well-studied recall of ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s America, McCoy takes us on a journey through the world this innovative musical act made. One of the few hip-hop groups of their era to stay together long term, De La Soul lived astonishing highs and lows, from forming the Native Tongues collective to influential fights with their publishers to assert the artist’s right to control their creations. And after a lifetime left out of music’s digital revolution, in 2023 they finally hit streaming services just as it lost founding member David Jolicoeur too soon to see his work reach a brand-new generation of fans. Living In A D.A.I.S.Y. Age will connect with DLS fans, ’80s babies, and students of the rap game alike, in a beautifully rendered and deeply researched tome that places this group atop the pedestal it deserves.”

After The Flood: Inside Bob Dylan’s Memory Palace
By Robert Polito

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Blending biography and archival history, After The Flood asks of Bob Dylan, “If your dreams are fulfilled at 20, what do you do with the rest of your life?” As the familiar narrative goes: Dylan, the voice of ’60s counterculture, disappeared in the 1970s, then released arguably the worst music of his career in the 1980s — only to be resurrected in 2016, when he was controversially awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Dylan’s concerts once began with an announcer intoning a deadpan version of just such a narrative. That is not this story. Here, instead, is Dylan’s second 30 years. Across an abecedarium of chapters surveying his albums, concerts, films, and books since 1991 — since that rainy February night in New York City when Dylan, then 49, accepted a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, signaling in effect that his extraordinary vocation as a vital and indispensable creative force had ended, was over — After The Flood reveals Dylan’s creative output during the last three decades as his most ambitious and accomplished yet. Drawing on thousands of pages from Dylan’s newly opened archive in Tulsa, and anatomizing hundreds of published and unpublished lyrics, liner notes, and more, celebrated poet and biographer Robert Polito demonstrates how Dylan evolved a late musical style that has equally embodied and resisted its era, interweaving folk process and American and world history, and transforming spectral cultural memory into devastating inspiration.”

A$AP Yams: Making Of A Mob
By Byron Hawes

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “An extremely rare and intimate look into the extraordinary life and death of legendary A$AP Mob founder A$AP Yams and the internationally acclaimed music and art collective that includes luminaries A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg. Never before has the history been told in words and pictures. As Forbes once said, “Hanging with A$AP Mob…is unlike any other experience in music.” This is the experience. A$AP Yams is one of the most influential figures in hip-hop history. From his high school-aged A&R work with Jim Jones’ legendary Diplomats Records, to his pioneering role at the then-nascent intersection between hip-hop and the internet with his #RNT Tumblr account, to the revolutionary geographically-agnostic sound of his early production for the A$AP Mob, Yams (née Steven Rodriguez) irrevocably changed the cultural and musical landscape for generations to come. Featuring hundreds of little and never-before-seen exclusive photographs, A$AP Yams: Making Of A Mob explores the founding and history of one of the most iconic collectives of this young century. Produced in concert with the A$AP Foundation charity, all royalties will be donated to the Foundation’s mandate of community outreach, food security, and drug education for the youth of New York City.”

Never Mind The Happy: Showbiz Stories From A Sore Winner
By Marc Shaiman

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “From the award-winning composer/co-lyricist behind such iconic projects as Hairspray, Sister Act, Mary Poppins Returns and Smash comes a wickedly funny, no-holds-barred memoir. In Never Mind The Happy, musical dynamo Marc Shaiman looks back on five decades of Broadway triumphs, Hollywood hijinks, and unforgettable collaborations. Along the way, he charts the personal highs and heartbreaks that have shaped him — spending his teenage years in community theater, starting a decades-long collaboration with Bette Midler in the ’70s, surviving the AIDS crisis of the ’80s, his award-winning film music career in the Hollywood of the ’90s, right up to the peaks (and valleys) of creating Broadway musicals from 2000 on. Candid, hilarious, and deeply human, Shaiman’s story is a tribute to the power of music, the pull of the spotlight, and the beat that never stops. Part showbiz tell-all, part love letter to the melancholy that fuels creativity, told with perfect comic timing — along with a few wrong notes, and plenty of standing ovations.”

Sparks: Song By Song Volume 1 1971-1988
By Ruud Swart

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “In the past 50 years, Sparks have recorded over 25 albums and a huge number of non-album tracks, demos and unreleased songs. Their music is characterized by the fact that it can hardly be characterized. There is little out there that can be compared to the Sparks sound, and where comparisons can be made, the artists behind the songs have often admitted to drawing their inspiration from the band. In this book every studio recording is discussed in unique detail, including demos and unreleased material. Those familiar with Sparks will instantly recognize each song as the band’s unique creation, though predicting how the next album or song will sound is an impossible task for even the most dedicated fan. This unpredictability and infinite variety is one of the main characteristics of the work of brothers Ron and Russell Mael. Sparks: Song by Song is a comprehensive examination and uplifting celebration of their unique and extensive output.”

Solo Yo: The Little Guide To Bad Bunny
By OH

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Rapper. Singer. Actor. Wrestler. Fashion icon. All-round good guy. It’s official: the biggest Latin trap star in the world in 2025 is… Bad Bunny! Since gliding stylishly out of Puerto Rico in 2018, he’s redefined Latin music globally, credited with pushing Spanish-language rap into the mainstream. His 2022 smash album Un Verano Sin Ti ruled the U.S. Billboard charts for 13 weeks — the first all-Spanish album to do so. With three Grammy awards, 11 Latin Grammy Awards and eight Billboard Music Awards, his collection of accolades and other staggering statistics speak for themselves. Unapologetically authentic, genre-bending, and proudly Puerto Rican, Bad Bunny has become more than just a star and cultural icon, he’s the undisputed King of Latin Trap. It’s Bad Bunny, baby!”
